The University of Otago has an excellent student culture, with a strong support system that equips students with the tools to succeed at a high level. Lecturers and tutors work hard to ensure all information is clearly communicated and offer office hours for additional help. I feel like I am particularly at an advantage with my degree, which is less mainstream. This means that often my lecturers are my tutors which allows me to learn in the exact way they teach the subject. However, I feel as though the humanities subjects could benefit from more representation and investment. The University of Otago also offers an extensive range of scholarships. I was lucky enough to receive the Pacifica Peoples Scholarship, which gave me $15,000 towards my studies. Student facilities are all closely spaced and plentiful, including UniPol gym, OUSA, seven main libraries, student health and AskOtago. Otago has a strong career guidance service that ensures students are able to kickstart their career smoothly after graduating. Not only has Otago allowed me to flourish academically, I have also been able to become more confident and independent. The skills I have learnt at Otago have equipped me for both real life and workforce scenarios.
