Pretty Abysmal

I studied economics here. It is an absolute joke, they repeat the same small amount of concepts every year just expanding on them minutely. It’s like in the first year you learn a something but then 50% of year 2 is spent repeating what was in year 1, and then 50% of year 3 is spent repeating what was in year 2, so you get two years’ worth of education for the price of three. To make their exams feel challenging they pose questions that are not in the course work.

I left here feeling like were more gaps in my knowledge of the economy than there was understanding.

To the faculty of the economics department:

– Stop repeating things from year to year. Ensure that there is no overlap between papers.

– When you first cover something, reach the end of it in that paper. Don’t get 75% of the way in and then start again from 0% the next year.

– List out everything that is important to understand in economics and arrange it pedagogically and ensure that it is covered. Don’t worry about “progressing too fast” or “covering too much” because trust me, you’re not.

– Make your exams from the content covered in the courses, don’t do the retarded thing of having to reach outside of what was taught to “pose a challenge”. We pay for you to teach us things, we don’t pay you to make us feel like you didn’t.

– Engage with your students and provide them individual feedback and allow them the opportunity for two-way discourse. I often felt like it was difficult and out of the ordinary for me to want to discuss things with the professor. And if I did, I felt like I was being a problem and was trying to be rushed out the door.
