Auckland University of Technology’s Communications Bachelor provides a fantastic insight into various communication industries. During my time studying I have encountered many tutors who are industry professionals, who have had valuable and insightful advice and I have felt well-supported and prepared during assessment periods.
The facilities are fantastic, spaces are clean and neat, lots of study areas and multiple spaces on campus to use industry-standard equipment. The radio equipment has been neglected however. Myself and my peers experienced multiple technical errors during our second year of study which are yet to be properly looked at.
I will admit that the first year of the Communications Bacherlor, the common year, is a bit lacking in it’s exploration of all the majors and minors provided. There was no real effort to create interest in majors like Radio and Audio Media or minors like Professional Performance Communications. I feel they should expand their content to include all subjects to allow students to make informed decisions and open them up to new industry pathways.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my time at AUT and it is a fantastic place to learn from industry professionals and make use of industry-standard equipment. However, it would be great to see attention given equally to all majors and minors during the first common year of study.
