It’s one of the best public universities in Malawi it has the best lecturers as well. I like the University for it was also my dream university. My experiment has been amazing. The problem with the University is accommodation that’s all. There are so many students but few hostels to occupy us all

The University of Malawi, particularly Chancellor College in Zomba, offers a transformative academic experience rooted in both intellectual rigor and cultural relevance. As Malawi’s oldest and most prestigious public university, UNIMA stands out for its commitment to excellence, social justice, and community engagement.

I appreciated the diversity of programmes from law and social sciences to natural sciences and communication and the way lecturers encouraged critical thinking and real-world application. The School of Law, Economics and Government, for instance, recently celebrated postgraduate excellence and hosted legal clinics that collaborate with local civil society organizations. These initiatives reflect UNIMA’s active role in shaping ethical leadership and civic responsibility.

Campus life is vibrant, with a strong student voice and historical involvement in democratic movements. The library and e-learning platforms are well resourced, supporting both traditional and remote learners. While infrastructure can be improved in some areas, the dedication of staff and the quality of teaching more than compensate.

I would definitely recommend UNIMA to students seeking a meaningful education that blends academic depth with social relevance—especially those passionate about development, justice, and African knowledge systems.

The university is the number one in both theories and practice and social work as a program fits well is this moment when the human kind needs support in their welfare now than before and the university has it all. The lecturers in the department were very helpful and friendly and it’s blended with practicum where we were sent in various agencies and institutions to practice what we learnt in class for the full semester
