Yes, as an Erasmus student, I would definitely recommend it. I am happy because it lived up to my expectations. All the prof were very understanding and flexible to the Erasmus students, that and overall environment made it a fun experience.
View moreThe university is nice but for the people who are having self willingness to study and do the task. I graduated from computer systems and my honest feedback would be that the program contains all of the courses which you would require as a foundation in a real world job market but the covers the basics. The real problem is upon the students to take it and go through it and this is where it fails. Just presenting as a regular or normal course students feel pressured and assumes it’s just a subject but from personal experience what I feel is that majority of things which I use at my professional work place has the basics which were taught in this university and this realisation comes later when you’re actually facing it in the professional environment. If teachers could make it more interactive and intuitive I personally think students could really benefit out of it and if the student is curious enough and does deeper studies along with the university materials, the students is kind of already ready to start with a professional career.
View moreMy overall opinion of Riga Technical University (RTU) is positive, especially for students interested in engineering and environmental sustainability. Based on the Environmental Engineering mobility semester courses, the university seems to focus strongly on practical knowledge and modern environmental topics rather than only theory.
What I liked most about the university is the course structure. The subjects—such as Energy Efficiency and Energy Audit of Buildings, Ecodesign and Life Cycle Analysis, and Quality & Environmental Management—are very relevant to current global challenges like climate change and sustainable energy use. The program combines technical engineering skills with socio-economic understanding, which is useful for real-world careers. I also appreciated that the courses are evaluated using the ECTS system, which is widely recognized in Europe and helps with international academic recognition.
However, there are some things I did not particularly like. As a mobility (exchange) semester, it may feel short, and students may not get enough time to fully integrate into university life. The program also appears academically intensive, with technical material that requires strong preparation in engineering and environmental science. Additionally, adjusting to a new country and education system in a limited time could be challenging for international students.
Overall, RTU appears to be a technical, career-oriented university with a clear focus on applied engineering and sustainability. I would recommend Riga Technical University to students who want practical engineering knowledge in environmental and energy fields, particularly those looking for European study experience and internationally recognized credits.
View more1)My opinion on RTU is mixed, primarily due to the stark contrast between the quality of the teaching staff and the physical environment. Many of my professors were excellent, deeply knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in student success. The curriculum in the computer science program was rigorous and highly relevant to the industry.
2)The major downside was the state of some campus facilities and lecture halls, which often felt outdated and lacked modern amenities. This sometimes hindered the learning environment. The dining options on campus were also limited.
3)Despite these issues, the academic quality is high, and the faculty makes a significant difference. I would still recommend the university, especially for students prioritizing strong academics over modern amenities.
