Makerere University is an age old prestigious higher Institution of learning. It has produced renowned and influential figures of society including presidents, writers, and academics. Some prominent alumni include Julius Nyerere (former President of Tanzania), Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (who led Kenya’s independence struggle), and Milton Obote (former President of Uganda). Additionally, writers like Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, David Rubadiri, and V.S. Naipaul have been associated with the university.
What I like about this University is that their curriculum isn’t rigid and out of date. New courses are added abd curriculum updated to benefit students and match them to the current world trends and job markets. This breeds a sense of security knowing you’re in capable hands of educators that care about your future.
My dislike is the dictatorship at the top of the institution. A lot of staff and students’ rights are infringed upon. We experience a high turnover of proffesors and other staff members. We hope for change soon.
