Dear Hiring Committee,
I am Lilian Wangui Githinji, a dedicated student at Kenyatta University, and I am eager to apply for the Student Representative position.
What I Appreciate About Our University:
Affordable Dining Options: The campus offers reasonably priced meals, especially in areas like KM, making it accessible for all students.
Inclusive Housing: There are accommodations available for both local and international students, fostering a diverse living environment.
Excellent Amenities: The university boasts top-tier facilities, including the Chandaria Building, which supports innovation and invention. Students can access resources like digital printers upon request.
Informative Events: Regular forums, such as career weeks, provide valuable guidance and information to students.
Diverse Community: The presence of students from various regions enhances cultural exchange and learning.
Sports Excellence: Our university is renowned for its achievements in sports. As a Taekwondo practitioner, I have experienced firsthand the excellent support provided to athletes.
Security Measures: The campus is equipped with a functioning police center, ensuring the safety of the university community.
Accommodation Allowances: The university provides allowances to assist students with housing costs, reflecting its commitment to student welfare.
Freedom of Expression: The absence of a strict dress code allows students to express their personal style freely.
Comprehensive Medical Care: Students have access to free medical services, ensuring health needs are met promptly.
Areas for Improvement:
Support for Local Events: Providing allowances for games held within or near the university, even when overnight stays aren’t required, would encourage greater student participation.
Housing Availability: Securing permanent accommodation outside the campus can be challenging if not arranged early. Areas like Wendani are preferred due to better security but often have limited availability.
Safety in KM: KM is known to have security concerns, leading many students to opt for housing in Wendani, which can become scarce if not booked in advance.
Cost of Housing in Sukari: Housing in Sukari tends to be more expensive, making it less accessible for some students.
Campus Size: The vastness of the campus requires considerable walking, which can be both a positive and a challenge, depending on individual perspectives.
ID Policy: Losing a student ID can cause significant inconvenience, as access to campus facilities is restricted without it, even if one possesses a national ID and portal access.
Fee Deadlines: Once fee deadlines pass, there is limited flexibility, which can be challenging during unforeseen circumstances.
I look forward to hearing from you and am available to provide any additional information if needed.
Thank you for considering my application.
Warm regards,
Lilian Wangui Githinji
