    The environment

My opinion about the UWI Mona it’s a great place for persons to come and experience Caribbean culture on a whole. What I like about it is that we are to share our experiences, differences and form a common ground, almost like a family. I like that it’s relatively small and intimate. The teachers are great with the students you can get into contact and have discussions with them. What I dislike is maybe there could be more engagement of students from different faculty. I would definitely recommend the University especially to persons who would love to experience different Caribbean cultures.

    Amazing University

The UWI-Mona campus is truly inspiring. I’ve never had a lecturer show me a bad face or turn their back on me. They were always ready and willing to help. Even after failure, they try their best to give you some form of make-up assignment or exam to get to where you need to be. They’re the epitome of, ‘No man left behind.’ Even their facilities are clean and sleek and welcoming for learning and study. This is literally the best UWI campus, because I’ve heard of and had experiences with St Augustine and the others, and they’re weren’t good. UWI-Mona to the world!

    It's a culturally grounded program

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is the premier higher education institution serving the English-speaking Caribbean. With campuses in Mona (Jamaica), Cave Hill (Barbados), St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago), and an Open Campus, UWI offers a wide range of programs in arts, sciences, social sciences, law, education, and more.

✅ What I Like About UWI
    Cultural Relevance

UWI is deeply rooted in Caribbean culture, history, and social issues. Lecturers often integrate regional perspectives into coursework, making the education highly relatable.

    Affordability

Compared to international universities, UWI provides quality education at a lower cost, making tertiary education more accessible for Caribbean students.

    Qualified and Passionate Lecturers

Many lecturers are experts in their field and care about student success. Some are also involved in research or activism, which adds depth to the classroom experience.

    Diverse Program Options

From Medicine and Law to Visual Arts and Gender Studies, UWI offers a wide variety of programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

    Student Life and Culture

Campus life is vibrant, with many cultural events, clubs, student-led initiatives, and opportunities for networking and leadership.

❌ What I Dislike About UWI
    Administrative Inefficiencies

One of the biggest frustrations for students is the slow or disorganized administration, particularly in registration, finance, and student services.

    Limited Facilities (in some faculties)
While some departments are well-equipped, others may lack up-to-date labs, studios, or digital tools, depending on funding and campus.

    Bureaucracy
Processes such as course exemptions, transcript requests, or graduation clearances can be unnecessarily long and complicated.

    Would I Recommend UWI?
Yes, I would recommend UWI — especially to students in the Caribbean who want an affordable, culturally relevant, and academically solid education. However, I would also advise future students to be patient and proactive, especially when dealing with administrative matters.

If you’re passionate about learning in a space that reflects your regional identity, and you’re willing to navigate a few hurdles along the way, UWI is a great place to grow both personally and professionally.

    Customer Service

Dealing with situations on a face-to-face basis there is also someone who can provide you with the necessary help in a timely manner. However, telephone calls to some departments may not be the most effective way of making the necessary queries you have.
