I think that the University of Guyana is trying to modernize and make progress in its programs, facilities and services offered to students. When I attended I liked that there were a lot of courses which gave me a well-rounded education in my major (Social Work). There were some really good lecturers who enlightened us not only on academic but also practical matters. Also, there were many opportunities for practicum and hands-on experience. However, I disliked the poor use or lack of technology in teaching courses. There was too much reliance on reading and textbooks and not enough work in the field. There was also endless red tape in many areas of the university and getting things done was a real hassle. I would only recommend this university to people living in Guyana with no choice for alternate methods of gaining their higher educational credentials. I would not recommend it to foreigners or people who have enough money to study elsewhere.
