Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is one of the biggest universities in Greece, located in the second biggest greek city, Thessaloniki. I’ll try to be brief:
– Academically, the University offers high quality education in a great variety of subjects. The professors are highly cited researchers and there are great opportunities for learning
– However, the economic crisis has its clear effects on the University, with old, not cared for buildings with dysfunctional chairs, projectors and lights being the standard. The laboratory equipment is old as well, though it works for what it’s supposed to.
– There is a very active student community which is organised in various teams, local and international, and there’s always some type of event being organised which offers opportunities for growth but also having fun
– The professors, as everywhere, can be hit or miss. Some will guide you and help you and make you feel interested, others will be cold and distant and mean and have you regret the moment you stepped into their class to begin with
– Overall, there is an air of fresh opportunity in AUTh, constantly stifled by the financial, structural and logistical struggles, but somehow always supported by the University’s students and professors’ own energy and passion.
