This public university in the eastern suburbs of Accra, Ghana’s capital is currently educating around 11,000 students and organises its operations into three main areas: Business Development and Skills Training, Research and Community Service, and Teaching and Learning. The institute was established in 1965 and is a significant compliment to the business and professional sector in Ghana, and offers courses under the following faculties, which are themselves further divided into departments: the Faculty of Communication Studies, the Faculty of Accounting and Finance, and the Faculty of Management. Each faculty runs several programmes at bachelor, diploma, and masters levels. Additionally, since 2009 UPSA has maintained a School of Research and Graduate Studies and offers various types of structures for its MBA courses, including, but not limited to; an MBA in Auditing, MBA in Total Quality Management, and an MBA in Petroleum Accounting. UPSA’s business programmes have been internationally recognised.
The neighbourhood around the UPSA campus has many shops and restaurants, but students may also avail of the canteen on campus. Along with the campus canteen, UPSA also runs a medical clinic, a counselling service, and has a modern five-storey library. For accommodation, many students reside in a nearby hostel. International students may visit the International Student’s Office, which is also on campus.
Indeed, UPSA’s aim of providing ‘education and training in Accounting, Financial Management, and Marketing’ is certainly being carried out – on both academic and professional levels.
