The passion for technology can lead you to choose the specialisation of Computer Science. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years, the development being so rapid that people are trying to keep up with it.
A Computer Science degree deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of information technology and computers. The scientific part merges with the practical one in various algorithms, information processing or in computational models. This specialisation often aims to study methodological processes, making representations on a computer, storage, or accessing information.
At the same time, the study of Computer Science focuses on the learning of programming languages, which are extremely important for any student. Python, C ++, Java are just a few of the programming languages that are explored in depth by students in order to solve the applications received from the faculty. Furthermore, on the labour market, programming languages are highly appreciated and integrated, being a useful tool for optimal performance of industries.
The most important skill that young people learn following this degree is the use of programming languages. Once they grasp the logic of programming, they will easily be able to master the languages and build or develop WEB applications. Additional skills that are acquired can be: network design and engineering, software engineering, multimedia design. In addition, classical skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving or time management are also gained by students.
According to recent studies, 6 of the 10 best jobs chosen by graduates are linked to Computer Science. These include Web Design, Computer Support Specialist, IT Operations Technician or Database Administrator. Moreover, the employment rate is favourable to the students, being over 70%. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, it is expected that the supply will grow in the future, requiring computer science specialists in any field.
To study Computer Science, students can either pursue university courses or follow courses online, depending on their availability and income. Online or outside-university courses include disciplines such as: Information Systems Management, Game Programming, Web Development, Network Fundamentals. They usually have a duration of 2 years. Although these courses provide important skills in this specialisation, students may be disadvantaged when competing with a student who has a Bachelor’s Degree. Some of the most important campuses in the world include Penn State World Campus, University of Massachusetts, Lowell (The Division of Online Learning and Continuing Education), Saint Leo University.
The Bachelor in Computer Science lasts around 3 to 4 years, depending on the university. Throughout the programme, students acquire mathematical knowledge, theoretical and practical foundation in programming. Some of the subjects discussed are: Computer Programming, Data Structures, Databases, Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory or Statistics. These vary according to the curriculum of the university.
A Master’s program complete the students’ necessary career skills. In this way, they have a greater understanding of computing softwares, tools, packages, and computer architecture.
There are Master programs that can be followed even by those who have not undertaken undergraduate studies in Computer Science, such as those offered at the University of Birmingham for example. These programs can take either 2 to 5 years.
A PhD program is especially dedicated to those who want to research or become university professors and can last between 4 to 5 years.
My experience at this university has been highly rewarding. The programme is well-structured, with dedicated lecturers who provide strong academic and professional guidance. I particularly appreciated the supportive learning environment, access to resources, and opportunities to engage in practical projects that enhanced my knowledge. The university also promotes diversity and collaboration, which made the learning experience more enriching. While there could be improvements in administrative processes, overall, I would strongly recommend this university to anyone seeking quality education and personal growth.
View moreI have had an incredibly positive experience at University of Energy and Natural Resources . It has provided me with a perfect balance of rigorous academics and a supportive community, which is preparing me well for my career.
The professors were the highlight. They are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely accessible and passionate about teaching. The campus facilities, especially the new science library and student union, are top-notch. I also loved the strong sense of school spirit at sporting events.
The cost of tuition is quite high, and finding affordable housing off-campus can be competitive. Some of the introductory-level classes are very large, which made it hard to participate.
Yes, absolutely. Despite the cost, the quality of education, the network I build, and the overall experience make it a valuable investment.
UENR is a great university which pushes students to their core best, makes students more productive and yes, I would everyday recommend this school to everyone out there.
The ability of them unlocking the best out of you is very impressive.
Uenr is one of the great schools in Ghana now. I am happy it is the university I completed. It is a new school and as such lack some infrastructures but that aside I love everything about the school. I would recommend uenr to any graduate who wants to pursue higher education, both local and international students.
View moreUniversity as a whole is a profitable and impactful organization to every society because it breeds prospects to fit in society and have problem solving mentality.
I have gained a lot of exposure to where the world is moving because I’m privileged to be in the University.
Despite this, the way lessons are delivered seems not to meet the current trends in the real world. Imagine been introduced to Artificial intelligence as a course and only history, books written like decades are used without any practical experiences mean while chat bot, modules are in the space now which should have been the focus to enrich students with skills.
In conclusion, I’m eager to make a change, as in position as a mentor, tutor or learner to help younger and old the opportunities surrounding educational institution one is. Thank you
The University has curricula and good ways of improving students lives on campus…
Lots of programs are organized to make sure that students do not only succeed in academia but also in skills…
However, facilities for learning some key practicals in the learning field keeps students blank in the outside world..
University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is a growing university in Sunyani, the Regional Capital of Bono Region in Ghana. It was established in the year 2012 and it’s celebrated it’s 10th anniversary this year. UENR academic structure per my experience is very organized with systems in place making sure the academic process from student registration, courses registration, access to results are digitized. Lectures are well structured and executed accordingly by the lecturers. There is fairness in the university and grade are awarded strictly according to academic performance. UENR graduates especially those from my year group are doing extremely well in the job market and others doing their Masters ans PhD programs at UENR and other universities in the country and overseas.A very quiet environment which makes it serene for learning. However one major problem that UENR has is it’s facilities ranging from Lecture Halls, Hostels, and Laboratories, Library.
There is inadequate Hostel facilities for students which leads to most student staying off campus, the increasing number of student population is putting pressure on the available lecture halls which forces some lectures to be combined. The current library is not big to accommodate more students. That’s the same for Laboratories; Computer labs, Engineering labs which. The University has however put in place to countermeasure these challenges and are now putting together new hostels, lecture halls and a new library.
If you’re looking for a university in Ghana especially in the upper part of the country to pursue course especially in Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Other Science fields you may want to consider University of Energy and Natural Resources.
