The Université de Lyon is based in Lyon and Saint-Étienne. It is a centre for higher education and a world-class site of excellence as proven by the IDEX label which was awarded to the university in 2017. The university has twelve member institutions, 17 doctoral schools and 24 associated institutions. Currently 140 000 students are enrolled in programmes at the Université de Lyon, 20 000 of whom are international students taking part in exchange programmes, study abroad, or degree programmes. Speaking of: the university offers undergraduate, graduated and doctoral-level programmes. The university aims to offer outstanding training and research opportunities in 5 major scientific fields: Biohealth, Humanities, Chemistry, Engineering, and Digital Technology. It offers 137 Master’s curricula and 1 unique PhD programme. 5 400 PhD students chose the university to study at. The International Alliance of the Université de Lyon aims to connect French students with students at partner universities abroad in order to educate future leaders with an understanding of foreign cultures. Université de Lyon works closely with its partner universities in Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and Europe. 6800 researchers and research lecturers are part of the faculty of Université de Lyon.
