Great learning atmosphere and student culture

I was studying Engineering, Innovation & Business at the Sonderborg campus in the south of Denmark. The campus is a smaller one, but definitely one of the more beautiful ones. The building is placed right next to the water and inside you have the library with real trees and many opportunities to sit down and relax with friends on couches.

The teachers are all very friendly and supportive. They know you by your name and their office is always open for you if you have any questions or need help (either academically, professionally or even personally).

The student culture is great as well and you really get a sense of belonging to the community through the student bar, which is run voluntarily by the students and also through other student clubs and meetups.

The difficulty of studying is fair. I would say it is a little bit easier compared to other European countries, but this also highly depends on the student. In general, however, I felt less pressure to study than in other universities.

Hi!
I would like to ask you if do you think I can get in SDU Engineering, Innovation and Business if my Unitest is under 35 but I am still in quota 1?

Hey Laura,
I do not know the exact entry requirements, but would advise you to definitely try it and also send an email to SDU Engineering, Innovation and Business. They are very understanding and open for any sorts of questions and concerns and they will most likely find a way for you to study there if you really show that you want to study there. I hope this helps you!

Hi Claas! I am going next year to study Msc in engineering, innovation and business and I have a lot of doubts. Is it really worth it? How much is an average month there? Do you recommend me any place to look for housing? Any tips for daily life? Are you happy with the knowledge that you gain in this programme? Is it easy to find a student job?

Hey Pedro, that sounds super exciting, but I understand your doubts. I mean it depends on your objective and what exactly you are looking for. I did my Bachelor’s at SDU but also heard positive impressions from my friends doing the Masters’s in Engineering, Innovation & Business. For housing, there is student housing provided for international students and it is very easy to get in there and the flats are very nice. I think as an international student you even have housing guaranteed, so you do not need to worry about this. Price-wise of course Denmark has slightly higher living costs than the average, but it also has a great social system for students. So, if you have a student job, you can get boligstotte, which is governmental support, which gives you a lot of extra money. Also, there are some other supports you can apply for. And you do not have university costs, so in that sense, I would say it is fairly cheap for students to study there. Finding a student job, however, is sometimes difficult if you do not speak Danish, but there are some waiter jobs that you can easily find as soon as you start living there and getting into the student community. For daily life, it is a small city, but the student culture is great, so you have many events at the university and every Friday you can go to the student bar to meet people. The knowledge I gained was good I would say, but I would say SDU focuses on soft skills and teamwork, so compared to top universities I would say you gain a little less hard knowledge, so it depends on what you want to achieve with the diploma after the master. I hope this helps you a bit 🙂
