Lingnan University - LU (reviews)

I’ve completed a Bachelor and a Master degree there. The uni is small (the smallest in HK), and to me it was just perfect, e.g. low student-to-faculty ratio, 100% on-campus housing, good food from the Chinese restaurant on campus. All academic building are within short walking distance, and you can reach a supermarket, post office and convenient store within a 10-minute walk. International students may find dorm life a bit challenging because only induction cooktops and microwaves are available and no cooking with fire is allowed in all student dorms.

I studied Social Sciences (Major in Sociology) in Lingnan University. I personally liked the subjects which were related to Hong Kong issues. The course instructors usually used Hong Kong welfare and policies for the classes and gave me a better understanding of the Hong Kong society. I joint different programmes at my university life, including Service-Learning, exchange, internship. You will find that there are so many opportunities for the students in this small liberal arts university!

I think Lingnan is excellent in promoting students’ personal growth as the university has a lot of different programs such as integrated learning program, internships, service-learning, community engagement and etc. These programs are structured in a way to allow students discover their true self and their passion as well as develop their character.

To be better, if the university can involve more students’ voices during the preparation stage of such programs, then will be great as students are those who receive the service, thus, their voices should be heard.

Lingnan University provides students with experiential learning opportunities through civic engagement programmes and Service-Learning courses. A small scale of teaching and learning brings much benefits including a friendly learning environment, good relationship between course instructors and students, and facilitates peers learning.
