I liked the university since it has a modern campus with a lot of newer facilities. They have a bustling international community and the students are friendly. Some of the classes were boring/not taught well but ultimately I had a good experience at the university. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who prefers smaller campuses with more interactive classes, especially students who want to pursue art or art-related degrees.
View moreIt was fun and interesting to study at BU. I was in the major of Cinema and Television, and I learned a lot from the knowledge about films that are really important to me in my life. The teachers I met are really nice and kind. Besides studying, BU itself would also give students lots of opportunities to work; it has its own website of job opportunities for students to look for. Also, BU has cooperated with so many universities all around the world, hence students can have choices to go on exchange. The thing that needs to improve is that the courses’ schedule of each semester should be balanced, there are so many deadlines met together, when we face mid-term or final, it will be really busy and pressure.
View moreHKBU is an international university with a variety of programs. As a Geography Major, I had a broad view on what to do as a geography major, such as formation of the earth, topics related to rock formation, sedimentation etc. However, it is not concentrated for me. The best part of my 4 year bachelor program is the exchange program I participated in. I went to Leibniz University Hannover for 6 months and it broadened my horizon as a geography student and enriched my univeristy life.
Overall, HKBU provided a platform for me to explore different opportunities across the world and lead me to further studies in Music Performance, which is my current studies in Brussels.
View moreAs a graduate of the Social Sciences Faculty at Hong Kong Baptist University with a master’s degree, I have had the opportunity to experience a diverse educational journey here. The Global Society program offers a unique blend of local and global perspectives. Core courses emphasize foundational, macro-level sociological theories, while elective courses focus on topic analyses and discussions rooted in local culture, urban landscapes, and global contexts. A wide array of courses is available, catering to diverse interests. My class had only 14 students, which allowed me to experience the benefits of small-class teaching, with ample opportunities for self-expression and dialogue with others. In this setting, the classroom serves as a forum for public discourse, rather than merely as a venue for the transmission of knowledge. The Global Society program features professors and lecturers from various countries, fostering a sense of cultural diversity.
However, last year the university reduced opportunities for social practice and internships within the program, leaving most students with no choice but to write a thesis. Furthermore, the time allocated for field research and social surveys for the thesis is insufficient.
Despite this, as a humanities and social sciences student, studying and living at Hong Kong Baptist University remains a very fulfilling experience. I strongly recommend the university library, which is modern and well-equipped. In addition to books, the library offers DVDs of films and TV series, as well as phonographs for playing music.
View moreBU has a focus on serving the community, so during my study, there were plenty of service projects and leadership training, both locally and internationally, for participation. It takes time to plan and organize your own services, so if you are also committee members of other associations and clubs, you have to be good at time allocation. So in the sophomore year, you should get to know the different opportunities, and decide your engagement in the later year.
Besides, the school campus is mainly divided into two sessions, with faculties situated separately, so most of the time, you will meet people from the same faculty only. So beware of what activities are going on by checking the posters of both campus sites, sometimes you would have missed them.
