I am currently studying at York. Professors are helpful and guide us through our careers. Courses and assignments are very practical and not just theoretical. These assignments can also be used as a portfolio and showcase it to recruiters.
View moreThere are various opportunities around you. Opportunities to engage with like-minded people and to work in future. You should be proactive, try to engage in extracurricular activities, and enjoy while you can. Certificate courses should be chosen wisely don’t go for a generic course go for something that will add to your resume and try to connect with your professors to get that additional benefit.
View moreI genuinely love and appreciate the support, culture, and diversity at York University. Last semester was truly a rollercoaster for me both academically and personally, yet, many of my professors and administrative staff were there to earnestly support me.
View moreThe profs are amazing & really help you to succeed and do your best. Yorks campus is also one of the nicest that I have seen compared to others, really makes you feel like you’re at an amazing university.
View moreYork had one of the most diverse student bodies in all of Canada. With over 5000 international students from all over the world, and a dedicated department for the international community, and clubs which bring different communities together, York is committed to fostering an inclusive and accepting environment. York’s English department follows suit, with a programme that attracts not just north american students but literature enthusiasts from the world over. The only thing that perhaps lacks in inclusion is a curriculum, though rich in western canon, which encompasses literature outside of the western.
View moreYork’s Theatre program offers a wide array of disciplines, it even offers the opportunity to create your own discipline if none of the other streams is what you’re looking for. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to learn as much as possible about theatre, from playwriting to costuming to acting. I have no doubt the skills I’ve learned at York will come in handy in my future career in theatre. York U Keele campus is not an ideal location, though now that the subway station is open it does make it much easier. The campus itself has lots of spaces inside and outside that are good for studying if you don’t feel like living in the library the whole time. York Lanes is especially handy, it has a Doctor’s Office, Dental Office, Optomistrist, Shoppers, and a small grocery store, as well as a bunch of places to eat around campus. I found in my first year I hardly ever left.
View moreThe teachers are competent and this area has really developed a lot. The campus is well maintained and there are a lot of places to hang out and get something to eat. The parking could be improved. Overall, the classrooms and installations are modern and nice.
View moreI really appreciated the variety of psychology classes throughout my degree. Some professors really did not know how to teach effectively. Other than that, as an international student, I have found it quite fulfilling to study here.
View moreThe program is an amazing program, and is a mixture of learning about legal history, and how the legal system have treated particular underprivileged groups in the past. It opens up your mind and helps you view things from a critical perspective.
View moreI graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University in 2001. What I liked about the program was the various areas under the scope of Psychology that was presented to students. Classes were always interesting – jam packed, with Professors always discussing interesting topics that kept students engaged at all times. I made and met many great people with different experiences and from different backgrounds. Many, that I have maintained friendships to date.
On campus, while as a student, I realized that there were many support networks and associations available. Through this, I engaged with people from all walks of life. Affiliation with some of the associations, provided guidance with workload, advice and overall direction with my studies, overall education pathway and furthermore career aspirations. This made “Student Life” at York always exciting. There was always a support channel available for students in terms of support. Based on my own personal experiences, I did and do not feel there is an area for improvement needed and would recommend the school to any University aspirant(s).
In terms of International curriculum and exchange students, I did not have much exposure at the time. I met a few, but know that this number as of todays times has increased. This is a great highlight of this schools willingness and ability to create diversity on campus and bridges the gap between local and students new to the country. As an International student, this is a great opportunity to possibly – if needed, study a new language, alongside earn a degree and of course learn about a new environment/country.
Although I did not pursue further education in Psychology after earning my degree, I feel it has provided me a great foundation within my current career. After graduating from York University, I attended Seneca College. This was a joint program offered through York where I earned a diploma with Human Resources Management. Overall, my degree, complimented by HR, has aided me as an individual with effective Communication skills, Critical thinking and has provided me a great understanding of Human Behavior. All of which are effective within Corporate culture.
I would recommend York University to anyone looking for a school that has great course curriculum, Professors, support networks and diversity.
