I had a great experience at Carlton University. The campus consisted of a diverse and inclusive environment filled with students from all across the country and the world. Regarding my program, I majored in linguistics and minored in French. I was surrounded by supportive faculty and students. If I had any questions in regards to my grades, courses or decision-making about my education, I was provided with the best resources to have those questions answered and/or mentors to help guide me towards the right path.
I had an enjoyable, social life, as Ottawa was a great city to explore with many restaurants and activities to do. Despite some of the highs and lows that I experienced during my undergraduate education, if I had to choose another university, I would choose Carleton all over again because I became equipped with useful tools and knowledge, which I now use as a master’s student.

You got to dip your toe in multiple specialities which made it easier to hone in on my own research interests. Overall, my professors were knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and it showed in their dedication to students’ learning. As I was in a smaller speciality (Latin American and Caribbean Studies), it was sometimes difficult to register for classes because of selective availability. The pandemic also resulted in many of my classes being shifted to online learning which made it more difficult to make friends and enjoy the student life provided by my university.
