Despite being accepted to multiple universities in 2016, Trent University was one of my top selections. From an outstanding teacher education program, to a tight-knit community, and previous high scores of student satisfaction, I knew it was the right place for me.
Its main draw in my opinion was the smaller class sizes that made it easy to get to know everyone, students and faculty alike, and develop personal connections. I felt that professors simply knowing my name and interacting with me was a huge bonus compared to class sizes filled with 500-1000 students.
Throughout my four years in undergrad, I made the most of attending the satellite campus in Oshawa, Ontario – where our campus was only 1 building (at the time). During this time, I joined the Academic Mentoring Program – where I was hand selected by the Career Advisor – to become an Academic Mentor. This entailed directly influencing/impacting the lives of university students by helping them academically, personally, and socially become accustomed to postgraduate life. I take pride in knowing that I enriched campus life and make those around me feel happy with their decision to choose Trent as well.
View moreTrent University has one of the most beautiful campuses for Canadian universities — lots of green spaces, independent from the downtown sector, and an efficient public transportation system. Trent University also has great bursary/scholarship programs and undergraduate research options, all while having smaller class sizes.
View moreTrent University is a small quant university with a diverse setting. The university is small enough that you know your professors, staff and other students. The variety of classes offered allows you to try multiple disciplines. The one downside is that there are a lot of stairs, so accessibility is hard.
View moreOverall Trent is a wonderful university with a positive atmosphere. In residence, students will find that their needs are met, but there is room for improvement. The food available on campus does not provide as much variety or healthy options as competing universities. The professors at Trent are all very accommodating and genuinely seem to care about your education and well-being. In regards to their English Literature program, there is a large variety of classes with specific focus on different areas of literature. Their creative writing classes are of high quality but can be difficult to get into as there aren’t many running per semester and a minimal amount of students are accepted at one time.
