A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.
Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.
The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.
One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.
Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.
Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.
Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.
Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.
Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. However, their duration could extend to 4 years if students choose to spend a year in industry between their second and third year, which is a popular option among the student community. Setting placement opportunities apart, the duration of a Management degree depends on three main factors – country, mode of study (part-time or full-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Management degrees in the most popular countries for Higher Education in Europe:

View moreWestern University offers a dynamic environment with a beautiful campus, diverse student body, and a wide range of opportunities to grow academically and socially. The BMOS program, in particular, stands out for its flexibility, allowing students to tailor their courses to align with career aspirations in fields like accounting, finance, and management.
The professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and many bring real-world industry experience into the classroom, which helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. The collaborative projects and case studies within the program simulate real business challenges, making it a highly practical choice for aspiring business professionals.
That said, there are areas for improvement. Some courses can feel overly theory-heavy, and scheduling can be a challenge due to high demand for popular electives. Additionally, while there are plenty of extracurriculars and networking events, students need to be proactive in seeking them out to truly maximize their experience.
Campus life is vibrant, with plenty of clubs and activities to explore, and Western’s reputation for fostering a strong sense of community is well-deserved. The resources available, from academic advising to mental health services, are comprehensive, though wait times can sometimes be long.
Overall, I would recommend Western University and the BMOS program to students seeking a well-rounded education in business, as long as they are prepared to take initiative and navigate some of the challenges that come with a large university setting.
View moreWestern University offers a fantastic environment for students, combining a stunning campus with a vibrant, inclusive culture. Located in London, Ontario, the university has a charming, close-knit feel where students are ever-present, creating a unique “university bubble” experience.
One of the highlights is the residence life, particularly in traditional dorms, which provides an excellent opportunity to make lasting friendships and enjoy the quintessential dorm experience you often see in movies. Beyond residence, Western’s social culture stands out—with exciting events like Homecoming (Hoco), Orientation Week (OWeek), and a variety of clubs fostering connections and memories.
Academically, Western is home to some exceptional programs, particularly the renowned Ivey Business School. Its 2 2 model allows students to spend their first two years in a program of their choice and apply to Ivey for their final two, resulting in an Honours Business Administration degree. The collaborative classroom environment at Ivey, with intelligent peers and a strong sense of community, enhances the learning experience. For those interested, a dual degree program is also available for broader academic pursuits.
That said, like any large institution, there are areas for improvement. Facilities such as the gym and campus clinics often face long waits, which can be frustrating for students. Some lecture halls and classrooms would benefit from being smaller to allow for more interactive and hands-on learning opportunities. However, plenty of resources are available to students who take the initiative to seek them out.
Overall, Western University provides a balanced mix of academic rigor, social vibrancy, and opportunities for personal growth. It’s a place where anyone can find their people, gain a world-class education, and create unforgettable memories.

View moreThe Business Management and Organizational Studies program at Western University provides you with a broad experience within the business sector of the world. Offering different subsectors you can specialize it, for me it honestly has given me a broad view of everything business. I appreciate that it lets us get a view of everything that business has to offer, with a diverse range of classes that I have to take, however I would like more specialization within the classes at least during the early years, as I have learned about things like Organizational Behaviour and Business Law, when I am not necessarily interested in those sides of business.
View moreI started my academic career at Western University back in September 2020. To say it was the right decision is an understatement, when first starting my first year of studies it was a bit hard to adjust and balance both academic and campus life, especially dealing with the pandemic at the time it was slow and not fun as a start. Once heading into my 2nd year and as the campus started to reopen it was astonishing how amazing the community is and how easy it was to meet new people and engage with similar-minded individuals. experiencing campus life also taught me many skills that can benefit me in my future endeavours such as networking, communications and consumer behaviours. I would recommend to any to look into pursuing a program at Western. #goMustangs!
View moreThe university is very inclusive. I like that people from all walks of life and races are in UWO. I don’t like the fact that graduate students don’t have accommodation on campus and have to seek accommodation off-campus which is quite hectic.
View moreI am currently enrolled in the BMOS program at Western University pursuing the Finance Specialization. My overall experience has been rewarding and I feel that I have learned a lot throughout the courses I have taken. The student experience at Western is one of the main reasons I chose to go to this school and it has lived up to my expectations. I feel very included at this school and I am able to have fun while maintaining relationships and school work.
View moreI enjoyed the focus of my program in regards to what I’m looking toward doing later in my career. The student life is amazing and the connections you make are invaluable. Student help is available but tends to be busy unless you schedule appointments weeks in advance. The professors are strong and for the most part, very accommodating. Overall, I’m enjoying my university experience and am planning to stay and study here until I graduate.
