As a second-year Software Engineering student at Western University UWO, I am absolutely in love with my program and university. From the very first day, I knew I had made the right choice in selecting this program and university.

What I love most about the Software Engineering program at Western University is the perfect balance between theory and practical applications. The program provides us with a strong foundation in the principles of software engineering, while also giving us opportunities to apply these principles through various projects and assignments.

Moreover, the professors and teaching staff are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the field, and their dedication to their work is reflected in the quality of the education they provide. They are always willing to go the extra mile to help students understand complex concepts and provide guidance when we need it.

Apart from the academic aspect, the campus environment at Western University is incredible. There is a strong sense of community among the students, and the campus is always bustling with activity. Overall, a very welcoming and friendly environment. Coming from the engineering program, they provide you with a strong program and environment to help you explore many potential options on what you might want to pursue in the future. The first year is a general engineering program, which is ideal for students who know they want to pursue engineering but are not quite sure as to what engineering discipline they want to pursue. With nine different engineering programs to choose from – seven of which are accredited and the other two of which can be taken on as a dual degree in combination a few of the accredited disciplines – students can experience each of the disciplines before making their final decision as to what they want to pursue. As a student in the software engineering program, they provide ample opportunity to discover several different aspects of software engineering, from artificial intelligence to game design to web development, they give you sufficient background knowledge in order to discover your passion to pursue in your future career. The only con is the (occasional) lack of communication between faculty in order to accommodate the best timings for students in terms of assignment deadlines and exam times. However, professors never want to see students fail, and will accommodate whenever necessary.

the students are really nice, some professors are only there for research so they don’t teach well which is an issue at every university. The student experience at Western though is great. The campus itself is also beautiful with a lot of clubs and activities for the student body.

In the computer engineering program, there was very poor program organization. The courses were jumping from one field of content to another with no cohesive structure between any courses. Engineering content was largely self-taught as you will be saving time and learning better when not in lecture. Western at large has its pros and cons. The school is large and can be very exciting in the earlier undergraduate years. As you get more familiarized, I found the city of London to not have much to offer. The winters are long and dark. Expect the administration to find a way to charge you top dollar for everything they possibly can, as they are very very money oriented. More so than other universities I believe. For example, I was required to buy business textbooks brand new from them in order to pass the course. After 14 grand in tuition a year for 4 years of engineering, they still charge you $20 for your iron ring. Want proof of enrollment for banking and tax purposes? That costs money too.

Was able to ask any questions of professors because our class size was small and received the required support to do well in computer science. I feel confident about exams and my further assignments at Western.
