Holland College is the local community college in price Edward island. It is a good school to start out at before continuing your education elsewhere. It has a welcoming campus with helpful instructors. I found some of the course work can be a bit too easy in some programs and extremely difficult in others based on what friends have told me which leads to a bit on inconsistency. Overall i enjoyed my 2 years at this school and would recommend it to someone who is local to the area or within atlantic canada. It would be hard to recommend to someone who is much farther away than that though as i feel like there would be comparable or better schools that are already closer to them
View moreI attended Holland College at the Summerside Waterfront Campus in the Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Repair & Overhaul Technology program (now called Aircraft Turbine Technician).
The administrative staff were very supportive during my time there. They helped me apply for bursaries, and I was fortunate to receive two of them. They also guided me with my student loan, and I felt they genuinely cared about my success.
The program itself was very hands-on. I enjoyed learning to follow technical diagrams, assembling and disassembling turbine engines, and professionally working with the proper tools. This practical training gave me confidence and real skills beyond classroom theory.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at Holland College. The supportive staff and strong emphasis on hands-on learning made my time at the Summerside campus meaningful and valuable for my future career.
View moreThe college provides a variety of programs. These programs are meant to be connected to labour demand on the island. All the programs include activities that help students to understand how the labour market works. My program is a fairly new one and it was the result of a provincial government request to certify project managers. The courses touch upon hard and soft skills that equip me to be a project manager. I think it would be better if we had the opportunity to have more guidance to prepare ourselves for the Project Management Professional Certificate.
Since the project is new, we are in a culinary Center of Holland College so our program does not have its “own identity” until today.
I think the multiculturalism and diversity of backgrounds in my class have brought me a lot of lessons and it is a good way to implement soft skills such as communication, group work and leadership.
The opportunities we be part of sports clubs and student counselling contribute to our wellbeing.
However, I think the college is not prepared to receive international students. The international office does not offer housing services or support for paying tuition fees without high fees. Also, the College does not have offers to reduce the expenses of students with low income.
