Such an amazing place to go to school! I loved my experience and my education! If you choose a school, make sure to choose this one. The night life, the people, and social aspect is incredible as well.
View moreDecent university; no solid complaints.
However, a lot of the professors in my program often fail to keep neutrality. Ex. A prof fought with a student regarding medical care in the States vs Canada.
Additionally, I have found some of my courses to not tie back to theory or academic knowledge and are strictly based on the professors own opinion and bias.
I love McMaster because of the sense of community within the school. Every day I walk into class, I am met with warmth and friendly smiles from my peers. My program is only 45 students so we all know each other which is great.
View moreOverall, I love Mcmaster University. The school itself inhibits a sense of learning simply from being on it’s campus. The energy that you get from students is overall motivational as Mcmaster also embraces collaboration.
View moreMcmaster is a research intense university that provides its students with the tools they need to discover and explore their topics of interest. While they offer many diverse programs, their accommodation methods during the period of covid fell short of their promises to deliver high-quality education. Many students were forced to self-teach, and the system of education for undergraduates do not at all support the mental health of students. Professors are not qualified to teach, but have the background of expertise in their field, and therefore are given the position of teaching. T
View moreI absolutely loved my school! I will admit it was a little difficult for me to adjust initially as it was a new town and I went into the school not knowing anyone. I quickly made friends and the school was very welcoming. My classes were okay… class sizes were average compared to other big schools and the professors were really respected in their fields. The social life as well was very active and everyone there is exceptionally nice. My one complaint would be the campus food, which is alright per se, but it tends to quickly get repetitive. Other than that though, it was definitely an amazing experience!
View moreHaving only completed the first year, the Arts and Science program has greatly expanded my ways of thinking. I feel that the small classroom size (approximately 65 people) along with the wide variety of topics being taught allows students to think “outside of the box” to gain a deeper knowledge about several topics. I am extremely grateful to be a part of this program.
View moreI enjoy the diversity of classes that I can take in my program, you do have required classes but there are also many electives you can take. Everyone in the program is helpful and it is easy to work with others to complete assignments and study. It does not feel like you are competing against other people. I think the student life is a very good mix of being able to go out and socialize but still having a good schoolwork mentality. Everyone is motivated and hardworking in the program and school so it’s easy to make friends as everyone is like-minded. There is a big international community and there’s a lot of diversity within the program and school, it is easy to find people that you relate with. There are also a lot of associations and clubs for different ethnic groups and clubs for different interests. The school has lots of resources and career services which you can go to for any questions you have. I think the career prospect is good as there are lots of ways you can prep and get help if you need it.
View moreThis program is great if you like sciences, but aren’t quite sure about what you want to do post-graduation. The first two years are general science classes (biology, chemistry etc) and after your second year, you get to specialize. This means more specific classes and lab work while in smaller classes, which allows you to really get to know your professors.
Some professors are incredible and go above and beyond when you show enthusiasm for their material, while others seem to view teaching as an unwelcome addition to their primary goal of research.
This school could improve upon setting students up for real jobs post-graduation. It is my experience that I and a lot of my peers felt that our specific degree does not set us up to enter the workforce and is more geared toward people wanting to further their education with a master’s or PhD.
The campus itself is beautiful and there is a lot of opportunity for off-campus housing. Most of the housing is in student houses rather than apartments, so you will likely have 4-6 roommates. The rent is fairly expensive but comparable to that of most University cities. There are a lot of trails and hiking surrounding the University and some good on-campus meal options.
The school does attract a lot of international students and has many on-campus groups for people to join to make friends who share common interests.
