The Arts programs are generally underfunded in this university. In my first year I had full semesters but in the next two years the competition to get into the courses needed to complete this degree got worse. In general there isn’t a lot of options per semester for available courses. You usually end up waiting for the course you want to take to complete its rotation and then if you’re late by an hour to enroll you will be stuck in the waitlist. If you want to get your bachelors completed under 4 years this is not the place for you.
About professors. Half of them use AI, some boast about how you have to get with the times. This may be a popular theme in other universities, however, the quality of feedback and course work dramatically diminishes once your professors use AI.
Academic advisors couldn’t care less about you, and will often redirect you to student services for course concerns.
Overall, if I could go back in time and choose where I wanted to do my bachelors in English I would not choose UofC.

View moreThere are many options within University of Calgary, and it’s not just academically wise, there are many different clubs within campus that are inclusive of anyone interested. The professors enjoy their jobs and make it easier for students to work since they know that the person teaching them really enjoys their work, but that many only be with the professors I’ve had. The campus is big so it’s a hassle if your classes are allover the place, but it’s also enjoyable to see different places and areas. The Mac Hall, which is our food hall is also great as there’s many seats and very many options to eat at, the walking area is a bit small though but there’s always something happening within Mac Hall every week!
