My experience at UFRJ has been very enriching. It’s a university with a wide range of opportunities, and many classes are truly valuable and content-rich. You can engage in research, extension projects, and connect with brilliant people from different areas. However, it also suffers from major issues caused by long-term government neglect — the infrastructure is precarious in many departments, and unfortunately, some professors lack good teaching methods, which can make learning difficult. This also contributes to high failure rates in some unified courses. Still, UFRJ remains a place of endless possibilities that you simply won’t find everywhere. I would recommend it for students who are independent, curious, and want to be part of a dynamic academic environment.

View moreAs a graduate student of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, I can clearly see how this prestigious institution offers numerous opportunities for its students to grow in their careers. However, in recent years, the infrastructure of UFRJ has been declining, with many issues related to the safety of buildings and temperature control during extremely hot days (which is very common in Rio). Despite these structural challenges, we have a strong team of professionals working here, which is crucial for students’ development. The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is one of the best higher education institutions in Latin America, and its dedicated professionals are what make that possible
View moreThis is my last year of Social Work at UFRJ and it has been a good journey so far. The university is a great environment for new discoveries, with interesting and innovative research and extension projects and extremely qualified professors.
It was excellent to experience what the University offers and the Social Work course at UFRJ is the best it can be!
However, when we think about criticism, I believe that the university needs more investment so that basic conditions are maintained and students have access to quality education (which it does) in a quality environment.
I am a student at ECO (School of Communication) at UFRJ and I think the faculty is very good in terms of teaching and a good social environment, however, it has some infrastructure problems that could be improved a lot! There is almost never water, the university restaurant has queues of 40 minutes sometimes, the buildings are in terrible condition. Overall it’s a good college and I like it, but these infrastructural problems need to be improved
