Nowadays, more and more students start to pursue a degree in modern languages. A modern languages degree is not only related to learning a new language but also understand the cultural context of the countries in which the language is spoken.
Candidates studying a modern languages course will also be given knowledge and experience of the political and historical contexts of a particular region. On top of that, the use of literary texts and media will develop not only their skills but also their perception about learning a different language.
Due to the increased globalisation, there is a high demand for modern languages graduates. The ability to communicate in another language and understand its background is a major advantage.
Modern Language courses are designed to give students transferable skills, which can be applied in all areas of activity. Candidates will have high communication skills, accompanied by data collection and interpreting skills, which are appreciated by employers, regardless of your career choice.
Modern Languages Degrees are four years commitments, out of which one semester or a year should be spent abroad – in a partnered institution. This gives students the opportunity to practice the language they are studying and understand a new culture.
Modern Languages is a degree that can be studied either as a single honour degree or a joint honour degree. This gives students the ability to combine modern language with another course such as politics, literature, history and many others.
I studied at the Department for Chinese and English Languages at the University of East Sarajevo and had a very positive experience. One of the university’s strongest aspects is its excellent international cooperation, which provides students with valuable opportunities to study abroad, particularly in China, and receive scholarships that support their academic growth. The university also hosts international staff, which enhances the quality of education and exposes students to diverse perspectives.
With a wide range of accredited study programs across numerous faculties, the university ensures that students receive a well-rounded and recognized education in their respective fields. The curriculum is designed to meet international academic standards, and collaboration with universities across Europe allows students to participate in exchange programs, joint research, and other academic projects.
Campus life is well-developed, offering students a comfortable and modern environment. The accommodations are newly built, well-maintained, and available at reasonable prices, making student life both convenient and affordable. Additionally, the university’s location is a great advantage. Its proximity to Sarajevo provides access to a vibrant city with cultural, professional, and networking opportunities, while nearby mountain resorts offer excellent options for outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, and weekend getaways.
Overall, I would highly recommend the University of East Sarajevo to students seeking a quality education with strong international opportunities. The combination of academic excellence, global connections, a welcoming student environment, and great extracurricular possibilities makes it an excellent choice for those looking to further their studies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
