I first heard about Howest through a friend and became interested in the Bioinformatics program. I already had some knowledge of omics, statistics, and basic R, and I had always been fascinated by coding, algorithms, and the mathematics behind them.
At first, I was a little worried about the programming side, but the program was very hands-on, which helped me learn by actually doing. The courses included many practical exercises, coding assignments, and projects, and the teachers were always approachable and supportive.
One of the strongest parts of my experience at Howest was the teaching staff. The teachers were knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely supportive. I also went through a very difficult period in my personal life during my studies, and the understanding and support I received from my teachers made a significant difference to me. It showed me that the program was not only focused on academic performance, but also on helping students develop and move forward.
My internship was also very valuable. Besides improving my technical and bioinformatics skills, I learned how to approach unfamiliar problems, work through setbacks, and keep trying different solutions until something works. It also taught me that real data is not always clean or simple, so you need to think critically and look at problems from different angles.
The program strengthened my interest in becoming a professional bioinformatician and, hopefully, one day contributing to the development of new tools and methods.

I would recommend this program to anyone who enjoys biology, data, coding, and practical problem-solving. You do not need to start with a strong programming background, but you should be curious and willing to learn.
