What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

    Nice experience

The facilities of the university are excellent, the campus is really green and beautiful. Professors are mostly supportive and competent. When it comes to the study programme it was closely linked to practice. Overall, what I liked most in my experience of studying here is there are many international students from different nationalities, so it’s quite diverse.

VUB experience from a business student

I really like the lush and green atomosphere surrounding the campus on Etterbeek. There is generally always a vivid and positive vibe on the campus. From all the campuses I have been, this one has the most greenery. A small downside however is that some aula’s look a bit dated from the inside, yet this isn’t much of an issue when it comes to my learning experiences.

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a university that I truly enjoy. One of the main reasons I appreciate it is the high quality of education and the dedicated professors, who are always willing to support students. The academic environment encourages critical thinking and research, offering numerous opportunities for growth and personal development.

Additionally, the university’s diverse and multicultural student body, with people from all over the world, makes the experience even more enriching. The facilities are modern and well-equipped, providing students with all the tools they need to succeed.

I would definitely recommend VUB to anyone looking for a dynamic and inspiring university experience, where academic excellence is combined with a vibrant and international atmosphere.

amazing activities both on and off campus

The free university of Brussel offers great class time. In addition to this, class sizes are adequate which gives lots of time for one on one interaction. The extreme focus on students needs really helps develop all students into future leaders of a global, free-enterprise society. While providing a great education, this school also provides great on and off campus activities. The free university of Brussel is the home of many wonderful athletic facilities for both team and recreation. Opportunities here are second to none. If you want real world learning and opportunities for jobs like no other, theres no better university to attend.

    International students, very bad teaching

To live and learn with international students has been a great experience. However, the professors speak an English which is hard to understand, their lecturers are basically useless. The exams instead are extremely difficult, we were intimidated by the professors with discouraging comments. Taking the exams was loud and chaotic, they did not manage to organise that properly. It looks like a previously good school and program is going down hill. There are passing rates of 15%. Therefore, a interesting, dedicated student body in a bad university.

    An international Environment

The program was good, a very international community. The environment is good for learning. The lecturers are willing to assist but depending on the programme you in enrol in you might have more students also requesting the assurance of the professors.

    Evening classes.

Really appreciate the location of the university and the fact that this master’s fits with my work schedule.

Also appreciated the different challenges offered by the professors.

There is free parking for students and the campus we had most of our classes are close to a train station intra-city connections and the Brussels Ring road.

Too little resources for too many people

Bar the introduction to marketing and market research there were no practical elements. No time for individual students. Mainly useful for telling us which textbooks to read. Lectures are generally very much the same as the books.
