Student review [#103188] for B.Sc. in Psychology
at Western Caspian University - WCU

Western Caspian was one of two universities in Baku that had a Psychology bachelor’s program in English, so my choices were pretty slim. WCU is much cheaper than most universities (a little over 2000 USD per year) but that’s somewhat reflected in the quality of education. Half of the teachers seem completely disinterested or checked out; they read from their presentations verbatim with very little engagement with the students. On the other hand, there are professors that are really trying.

Administratively, the school is a bit of a mess. The number of problems I’ve had throughout the year has been absolutely insane and none of the staff ever seems to know who is in charge of what. I did not have a working student ID until the middle of the second semester, they have repeatedly placed me in non-English speaking classes, and the beginning of this semester they straight up forgot to assign a professor to one of our classes. These are just a few examples.

Despite this, I do want to stress that I have overall found the staff helpful when dealing with these issues. They work hard but are just not set up for success. My understanding is that there have been a lot of improvements over the years but I would not recommend it as it stands now. I’m being generous giving them a 3 out of 5, as I would probably give them a 2.5 if available.
