Being a student at UMT for 6 years has been quite an adventure: days filled with excitement, hope and a lot of reading. My professors have left a huge impact on me due to their dedication to teaching and passing down their knowledge to younger generations, for now I dream to continue their hard work. What i would consider a set back regarding UMT would be the amount of practice hours, with is lower compared to international protocols, but I have faith this issue will be dealt with in the upcoming years.

The University of Medicine Tirana is a public institution that offers medical education and training in Tirana, Albania. It possesses several commendable aspects while also leaving room for improvement. In this review, I will explore its low fees, scholarships for excellent students, and the potential for enhancing the campus and laboratories.

One of the standout features of the University of Medicine Tirana is its low fees that are about 400 euros annually for students with an average grade below 6 and half of it for students with an average grade from 6 to 9. As for students with an average grade of 9 to 10 there are no fees. Affordability is a crucial factor for many students seeking higher education, especially in the medical field, which often incurs substantial costs. The university’s commitment to providing accessible education by maintaining reasonable fees is commendable. This aspect allows aspiring medical professionals to pursue their dreams without facing significant financial burdens.

The government offers a monthly stipend of about 450 euros for excellent students that commit to work in Albanian piblic healthcare for at least 3 years after graduation. The program includes theoretical studies as well as practical work. The first 3 years are pre-med and include studying different subjects mostly about general medical practices. The 4th, 5th, and 6th years include rotations and more practical studies in every specific field of medicine, such as cardiology, pneumology, paediatrics, anaesthesia, etc. The professors are good and their teaching is thorough, but they are also very demanding. However, the books that are used need to be updated. Furthermore, the exam methods need to be improved.

Regarding the curriculum and the classes, they lack the practice part and the close observation of human anatomy and medical procedures and the direct communication and observation of the patient which I think is very important.
