Students who study in the United Arab Emirates say that the modern university facilities and the sizeable multicultural community (the UAE has one of the largest expat communities in the world, with many people from India, Japan, and the United States) make the study experience memorable. If you want to study in this diverse, sun-soaked country, you might want to choose one of the best universities in the United Arab Emirates, but what are they?
There are plenty of universities and business schools in the UAE, both Arabic institutions and international universities, that have opened local campuses in the country. With so much on offer, deciding where to study (including which modern city you want to be based in) can be a headache.
Instead of turning to university rankings for the answer, we’ve used student reviews posted on EDUopinions to discover which universities in the United Arab Emirates students like the most.
So, read on to learn about the top ten universities in the United Arab Emirates, according to students!
The Top 10 Best Universities in the United Arab Emirates
Summary and Methodology
To find out which universities students rate highest, we filtered reviews to include only those from United Arab Emirates universities with more than ten verified reviews as of September 19th 2024.
We removed universities from the ranking with multiple campuses, including in UAE, but only a single university page (e.g. the Rochester Institute of Technology). This is because overall ratings would not accurately reflect the institution in the UAE but all global campuses.
The exception is Hult International Business School, which we included because students typically complete a ‘campus rotation’ as part of their degree programme, which gives them sufficient experience at the school’s Dubai location.
This left 12 universities in the United Arab Emirates with enough reviews to qualify, which we then ranked by the ‘overall rating’ student reviewers chose. We’ve included Arabic and international universities in our list, but if you want to discover what students say about local universities, check out our blog on what it’s like to study in the United Arab Emirates.

Student Review
It is a good School, it takes a lot of hardwork and dedication to get through since afterall, it is training Medical professionals.
I like the fact that learning is made convenient and to cater for the students’ needs. The teachers listen and encourage students, they counsel you when they notice changes.
It has gives one a lot of exposure as learning isn’t done in one but multiple environments.
The tuition fee is quite pricey, although I understand it is because the School provides the best material and education.
9. University of Wollongong in Dubai (3.94/5 Rating)

The Dubai campus of Australia’s University of Wollongong is one of UAE’s oldest international educational institutions; the university was the first to trial opening a satellite campus in Dubai. The university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in business, engineering, IT, and media.
Students particularly rate the University of Wollongong Dubai for the career prospects available, which makes sense given the university’s strong connections to industry. EDUopinions reviewers also give the university high ratings for its location (at the heart of the multicultural Dubai Knowledge Park) and quality of facilities.
Student Review
I’m thoroughly enjoying my time at the University of Wollongong in Dubai! Having completed my first year, I can confidently say that the campus is fantastic, the professors are incredibly supportive, and the student life is vibrant and engaging. Initially, I was apprehensive about adapting to a new cultural environment, but the diverse community here has made me feel welcome and included. While I’m still adjusting to the Dubai lifestyle, the exceptional academic programs and experiences make it well worth it. As I progress into my second year, I’m excited to explore more opportunities and see what the future holds for me at UOWD!
Student Review
Dope facilities, knowledge village itself is a lovely and a great and beautiful place to spend time with friends. Supportive lecturers and amazing facilities! Always something going on, an event or something. The library is the best place to get your head down and get on with some work.
8. Middlesex University Dubai (4.10/5 Rating)

UK-based Middlesex University opened its overseas campus in Dubai in 2005, located in Dubai Knowledge Park, like the University of Wollongong. Later, the institution opened a second campus in Dubai International Academic City, making Middlesex University Dubai one of the largest UK universities in the UAE.
Middlesex University Dubai has a large multicultural student body, allowing students to learn from their global peers. It is the first university on our ranking of the best universities in the United Arab Emirates to receive an overall rating above 4 out of 5, and students also give high scores for its internationality and professors.
Student Review
The level of teaching with Middlesex is exemplary, with professors ready to help at any given moment for whatever reason. Although there were some exceptions with some professors the overall education was great
Student Review
MDX is quite a good university but lacks in the normal sports amenities you would expect to see.
The courses however are hard to fault. I personally found it to be extremely relevant to what I planned on and am currently doing.
7. Abu Dhabi University (4.13/5 Rating)

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) frequently tops the traditional university rankings for institutions in the UAE and is considered one of the country’s most prestigious institutions. Here, students can choose from various programmes, including business, engineering, law, and arts.
ADU’s reputation and status mean it has fostered close connections with the industry, and student reviewers on EDUopinions give it a high score for career prospects. They also rate the university’s internationality and value for money—average tuition fees for bachelor’s programmes are rarely above €15,000 per year.
Student Review
Proffessors are very supportive and guide you in almost every way possible.
They even entertain any queries after their work hours and it’s pretty much like a family sort of feeling.
They have a really big ground for football and athletics, and for a person like me who is a sports fanatic, it’s a great boon.
Overall fantastic university, and has good scope for getting jobs in GCC region.
Student Review
Having studied business finance in ADU for the last three years I feel like this university excels in educating its students. Friendly doctors and students made the college feel like home. Most of my peers who attended other places had a rather stressful experience whereas I had a smooth sailing through the last three years. I would most definitely recommend this college to anyone who is looking for an accredited college with an equal balance of extra curricular activities.
6. Heriot-Watt University Dubai (4.18/5 Rating)

Heriot-Watt University’s home campus is in Edinburgh, Scotland, but the institution opened its Dubai campus in 2005 and rapidly increased its student population. Heriot-Watt University Dubai’s cutting-edge research in renewable energy and sustainable design is highly regarded, making it an excellent choice for students interested in STEM fields, particularly those seeking a UK education in the UAE.
Heriot-Watt University Dubai’s size and reputation means it has attracted more verified student reviews than other institutions in the United Arab Emirates. Although the university receives a comparatively low score for accommodation compared to other universities on this ranking, students rate the quality of facilities and the internationality of the university.
Student Review
I completed both my Bachelor’s in Management and my Master’s in International Business (HR) at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, so I’ve had a lot of experience there.
What I Liked: The quality of education is really solid. The courses are well-structured, and the faculty knows their stuff. I also liked the diverse student body – you get to meet people from all over the world. The campus is modern, with great facilities like a well-equipped library and study spaces. Plus, there are decent opportunities to connect with companies through internships and career fairs.
What Could Be Better: However, the administrative side could be more efficient. Dealing with student services was sometimes slow or frustrating. Also, while there are extracurricular activities, they could offer more variety.
Would I Recommend It? Yes, I would recommend it, especially if you’re looking for strong academics and a global experience. There are some areas for improvement, but overall, it’s a good place to study.
Student Review
The environment there in Heriot-Watt Dubai Campus is really friendly as there are students from different nationalities and we all study together that’s how we build international connections. 2ndly, the faculty is also well diverse from different countries in the world including from Canada, USA, and UK itself. 3rdly, the career section is really beneficial as many of us while studying bachelor’s get internship in summer break in big companies thru university’s career department.
Overall, I would recommend this university.
5. Zayed University (4.19/5 Rating)

Zayed University has campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and offers degree programmes in arts, business, IT, and social sciences. The purpose-built campuses are a hub for student life, and students recognise the value of extracurricular experiences and the student community at the university.
Student reviewers give Zayed University high scores for value for money and its location—not a surprise given that students can study on a large campus near the country’s biggest cities. Reviewers also speak highly of the university’s professors and graduate opportunities.
Student Review
Zayed University is an amazing university in terms of the resources provided and the quality of services that you get. Despite having buildings that are like a palace, the university is limited in the number of majors they provide. As a result, you will be forced to choose a major that you are not interested in. Secondly, when comparing with other universities like Khalifa University, the courses lack depth and are some times too simple. Lastly, the number of international students at Zayed University is very limited unlike other universities. So, you may not get an opportunity to learn from diversity. Overall, Zayed University has both good and bad sides.
Student Review
I enjoyed my time in Zayed University, however, it’s not very academically challenging. The professors are great, very helpful and willing to guide students and create professional connections. The classes are mostly under 40 students, so it creates a more interactive experience and environment.
4. Canadian University Dubai (4.23/5 Rating)

Students at the Canadian University Dubai (CUD) benefit from being on a campus just 30 minutes from the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. The university thus grants a unique blend of Canadian education and proximity to the best of Dubai’s sights. With opportunities to transfer credits to Canadian partner universities, CUD gives students the flexibility to study abroad and benefit from global perspectives.
Given the rigour of the Canadian-style education, it’s no surprise that reviewers give CUD high ratings for career prospects. However, CUD gets reasonably high scores across the board, especially in value for money, facilities, and campus internationality.
Student Review
I’ve had a mixed experience at Canada University Dubai. Engineering courses were challenging, but professors were supportive. Career services were helpful, and the campus was modern and well-equipped. Student life was vibrant, with a diverse international class. However, tuition fees were steep, and value for money could be improved. Location was convenient, but student accommodation options were limited. Student clubs and societies added to the experience. Online learning was implemented during the pandemic, but could be enhanced with more interactive tools. Critically, some courses felt outdated, and more industry connections would benefit students. Overall, Canada University Dubai offers a good, but not exceptional, experience. With some improvements, it could truly shine.
Student Review
I’m absolutely loving my time at Canada University Dubai! I’ve settled in nicely, and the campus is truly impressive. My professors have been incredibly supportive, and the student life is vibrant and exciting. As an international student, I was initially anxious about adapting to a new environment, but the diverse community here has made me feel welcome and included. The Dubai weather takes some getting used to, but it’s a small trade-off for the top-notch education and experiences I’m having. I’m excited to see what the next few semesters bring – CUD has already exceeded my expectations.
3. Hult International Business School (4.26/5 Rating)

Hult International Business School offers a globally recognised business education, specialising in degrees such as MBA, Executive MBA, and Masters in International Business. Given the school’s global focus, it makes sense that reviewers give Hult an exceptionally high rating for internationality. However, students also rate career prospects, location, professors, and value for money. Programme fees for the top-ranked Masters in International Business in Dubai are €45,000.
Student Review
Hult International business school is a good opportunity to have an exposition to International world. I appreciated my experience there and I got very good professor. Staff members could be sometime very difficult to deal with but the dean is very good. Special mention for my finance professor, data and AI professor. They was exceptional and excellent.
Student Review
Good university for students who are looking to settle in dubai, the campus has lot of space for students and it’s located in an easily accessible place in Dubai.
Professors are helpful and the overall faculty is very professional. Hult dubai also encourages and helps students in getting internship while studying.
However the fees is too high for the things they offer and really can make a whole in your pocket.
2. American University of Sharjah (4.27/5 Rating)

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is known for its strong academic programs and international faculty. Offering degrees in engineering, architecture, business, and arts, AUS blends a traditional, American-style liberal arts education with practical studies on a large campus just outside the city of Sharjah.
Students appreciate the modern facilities available at the university (including a fully-stocked library with 141,000 English books), career prospects, and student accommodation, for which it receives the highest score on this ranking. Reviewers also appreciate student life on campus, where they can engage in lots of extracurricular activities.
Student Review
Best days spent in AUS. Spending more time in it than at my home created such a strong bond with it and its atmosphere. Professors, students and memories in each corner of the building brings my smile up on my face. Besides, you learn from other people and their culture, and you get the chance to grow and develop yourself at different levels.
Student Review
The University is a bang for its buck in terms of campus learning and facilities. there are a lot of opportunities to develop in particular fields of studies and the broad diversity of nationalities helps understand the global markets. Professors are also very friendly and professional. Examinations can be challenging and the university is known for being a hard one in the middle east. But the degree and prospect are worth it.
1. American University in Dubai (4.33/5 Rating)

So, the title of best university in the United Arab Emirates goes to the American University in Dubai (AUD). Here, students enjoy an American-style education focused on hands-on learning. Located in the heart of bustling Dubai, students are encouraged to explore internship opportunities to enhance their careers. In fact, AUD receives the highest rating on this ranking for career prospects.
Students also give high ratings for facilities; AUD students benefit from a vast, purpose-built campus encompassing academic buildings, residence halls, a cafeteria, and sports facilities. Although AUD receives a lower-than-expected rating for student life, it makes up for it with exceptional scores for internationality and value for money.
Student Review
American University in Dubai is amazing! Its beautiful campus and vibrant social activism community make it an incredible place to learn and grow. The supportive, inclusive environment created by the diverse people on campus makes it a truly special place.
Student Review
This university is a great community with caring and detailed teachers. They know all the students by name and the small class sizes make it for a better attentive work environment. The cafeteria food is good and diverse and there is also a Starbucks on campus. The students are very friendly and welcoming, although a bit superficial. Even though the campus is small it’s easy to find like-minded people. The academics are incredible, especially the Arabic teachers. There is a Mcdonald’s right next to the campus which makes it fun to do with friends in between classes. The classes are always reasonably timed and flow well. The campus is very diverse with people from all over the world. Good experience.
