The University of Paris – Panthéon-Sorbonne, commonly known as Paris 1, is a public research university located in the Latin Quarter in Paris. The university was founded in 1971 by professors of the dissolved University of Paris, with the goal of establishing a multidisciplinary university. The disciplines are Economic and Management Sciences, Human Sciences, and Legal and Political Sciences. The founders of the university have always expressed their attachment to an academic culture combining openness and excellent research, assuming the responsibility of receiving the widest and diverse audience of students amongst French universities, but also to position themselves as one of the first research universities in their domains. Applying at the University of Paris – Panthéon-Sorbonne
The enrolment process at Paris 1 consists of multiple steps but is not so complicated once you managed to see through the fog.
Once you decided on which degree you want to pursue, you need to visit the page of the institute responsible and follow their application guidelines there. Some institutes require you to apply via Parcoursup, the official portal of the French Ministry for Education, some handle the process internally. You can find a list of all the Paris 1 institutes here.
After your application, you need to wait for the institute to confirm you’re allowed to enrol in one of the programs. When you got the confirmation, you must complete the administrative registration. This is the official registration as a student entering the university for the next academic year.
Finally, you can complete the academic registration in order to record the list of classes and assessment methods you have chosen.

Noé spent his first two years studying at Paris 1 in the Tolbiac Center in the 13th district instead of the Panthéon in the 5th district. Although it might not be as charming as the Latin Quarter, the area offers some nice bars and restaurants with affordable prices for students to grab lunch or some beer. The university is one of the best in France when it comes to social sciences, and Noé’s professors were excellent and inspiring. Some rooms in the main building next to the Panthéon are very old and in a very poor condition, but institutes like the Tolbiac Center manage to maintain a higher standard. It is open for everyone to join student associations, and according to Noé, you should do that, as they hold lots of power within the academic environment. This student had the chance of studying his master’s degree in a class with a rather small group of students. He or she found the professors and the classes to be highly professional, although the teaching style was sometimes a little old-school, with professors holding lectures rather than encouraging interaction in their classes. The equipment and the teaching materials were also not at the highest technical standards but luckily, the quality of the degree made the little mistakes worthwhile for this student, too.
