Located in the green Ecopark area of Hanoi, British University Vietnam (BUV) offers UK-accredited degrees from five British universities: the University of London, the University of Staffordshire, the University of Stirling, Arts University Bournemouth, and Bournemouth University. It was also the first university in Vietnam to receive a 5-star QS rating, with top scores for facilities, inclusiveness, and teaching, with a 100% international faculty.
But let’s hear it from the students themselves: why do they choose to study at British University Vietnam? Let’s find out by looking at student reviews of BUV on EDUopinions.
Why should you study at British University Vietnam (BUV)?
1. Welcoming environment

Just 25 minutes from downtown Hanoi, British University Vietnam students study in a state-of-the-art 5-star campus. Here, students can enjoy the best of both worlds: a high-tech campus in a serene setting, but with easy links to Vietnam’s cultural and political centre.
Student reviewers frequently mention the welcoming atmosphere on campus, as well as the sense of safety and inclusivity, despite its proximity to the bustle of central Hanoi. The Vietnamese capital has been climbing in rankings of expat-friendly cities, jumping from 160th to 144th globally in the ECA International Location Ratings report for 2024.
When you study at British University Vietnam, you’ll gain support from a dedicated Global Buddy, a local BUV student who can help you arrange transport, meet-ups with other international students, and city trips to help you adjust to life in Hanoi.

My name is João, I am from Brasil, and I am a student at BUV. As an international student this university has been very welcoming in regards of the change in culture and language, even though most students are Vietnamese there are always other students that come from different countries, which can help in socializing and making new friends. The programs are all taught in English and are very well thought out, I major in Computer Science and all of my teachers are from outside the country as well which makes it easy to learn. Overall my experience in BUV has been very positive and I would highly recommend other people who are looking for an international university to give BUV a chance.

If I had to talk about my experience in Vietnam, I would say that I am super happy to have this experience. We don’t all have the chance to go abroad for 4 months, especially to another continent. Thanks to this experience I can see the differences between countries in terms of culture, food and way of life. I also had the chance to visit a lot of other places such as Vietnam in the south or Thailand, Malaysia and also Japan. The campus life is really good too because there is a lot of different activities to do and people are really helpful with all our demands. For the accomodation service we have the chance to be well helped.
Thank you for all the support and the nice opportunity and experience you give us. Thank you BUV

The safety around BUV and Ecopark cannot be overstated, having the freedom of walking around the streets at any time of the day without having to constantly look over your shoulder is an underrated feeling that just leaves you feeling so much happier. Jumping from one coffee shop to another is a euphoric feeling that gives you a sense of belonging that makes you feel at home as a coffee-lover.
2. Supportive and approachable staff

BUV has a diverse international faculty, and students benefit from a British-style learning experience that values close support from staff. The Student Academic Support (SAS) Office provides tutoring and other services to support students throughout their academic journey at BUV.
One of these services is the Faculty Learning Support programme, which offers students additional one-on-one mentorship and learning opportunities with faculty members.
In general, students can expect a high standard of teaching at British University Vietnam – it is the only university in Vietnam with partnerships with prestigious Russell Group universities in the UK, including the University of London and the University of Liverpool. Additionally, BUV is the first university in Vietnam to achieve quality accreditation by the QAA, a sign of its commitment to the student experience and preparing students for the workforce.

The computer science major, for me, it’s a great major mainly because we are learning subjects that we actually use in the real world. The content we learn is perfect for the job market. I also like the way they are always getting the student feedbacks to improve the university areas in general.
In general, my experience with the university is good! I’m glad that they listen to the students and look always to improve the university quality.

Hi all,
I am an alumnus majoring in International Busineds Management at BUV. It is great to have a platform to share with you guys about the fantastic experience with lecturers at BUV. All of them are super cool, supportive and deliver the lesson in the most easy way for students. I was afraid at first when studying in English with British style (which I heard before was strict and difficult). However, the faculty here are all QAA accreditted and they are all friendly to students, especially international ones to help students succeed in the assignments.
Haha cannot forget the time when I was stressed out and urgently sent the email to my Prof at 11pm and only after 5 minutes he got back with detailed guidance.
3. Diverse student life

On the BUV campus, students have numerous opportunities to enrich their academic experience beyond their chosen course. There are over 30 student-run clubs and societies, encompassing a wide range of interests, from sports and hobbies to educational pursuits.
Throughout the academic year, students can participate in a wide range of events to help them bond with other BUV students and feel more at home on campus. These include orientation days, cultural festivals, and sports competitions.

My name is Mariana and I’m from Brazil. My experience in buv has been great. It has been an exiting experience where I have learned so much. I like the programs they have and the British curriculum. I like that there is always something happening in the campus, whether it’s student-run clubs, events, or the chance to meet new people in events.

My experience at BUV has been really positive. What I enjoyed the most were the various student activities – they were well-organized, diverse, and created great opportunities to connect with both local and international students. The campus itself is modern, spacious, and very well-equipped, which made daily life on-site really comfortable.
One of the highlights for me was the support from the International Office. They were always available, helpful, and supportive which made a huge difference as an international student. I also want to mention the accommodation at Ecopark. It’s peaceful, green, and well-maintained, offering a safe and comfortable living environment.
Overall, BUV offered me a great experience in an international setting, and I’d definitely recommend it to other students looking to study in Vietnam. If I had to mention one downside, it would be that the academic courses felt a bit too easy at times.

As a Chinese international student at BUV, I’ve had a wonderful experience. The students, teachers, and staff are always so friendly and ready to help with anything. There are so many clubs and activities, from skill-building workshops to just-for-fun events, and it feels like there’s something for everyone. These activities have helped me learn new things and make great friends. BUV is not just about academics it’s also a vibrant community where I feel supported and engaged.
