Established in 1891 by Free Methodist pioneers with the name of Seattle Seminary, it began as a small piece of land in Seattle, Washington. When it was founded, its vision was to train missionaries for overseas service. With a stable development and expansion since its humble beginnings, Seattle Pacific University has changed its name over the years to benefit its changes in status. In 1913, the name was changed to Seattle Seminary and College, and with a short span of only two years, it was changed again, to Seattle Pacific Christian College. Finally, in 1977, it was renamed as Seattle Pacific University, after gaining university status.Show more
