It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.
Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.
Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.
Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.
In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.
Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.
Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.
The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.
SCAD is an incredible place for those looking to integrate into the world of creatives in the industry. Not only do they offer an incredible variety of disciplines to major and/or minor in, they have it all in terms of what is to learn in these fields.
The location is a big plus to the experience of attending SCAD. Savannah is beautiful and filled with history and charm. I loved living there, and having that environment was inspiring for my projects and works.
Ultimately, my favorite part about SCAD were the professors. SCAD has the best of the best artists who worked in their fields for years and have been recognized for their accomplishments. I learned from top animators from Disney, Pixar, and Sony Animations. And the professors become mentors, and give students one-on-one time to become better.
In conclusion, My experience at SCAD was fenomenal, and I would suggest it to anyone who wants a creative job, and connect with other artists in the industry.
View moreAt SCAD, there is an overwhelming intake of new students. This leads to issues with housing and class registration. However, even with the massive influx of students, the professors in the Illustration department genuinely care about their students. They give critique and feedback that is supportive and helps the student to grow and become a better artist. I was not good at taking critique when I first got to SCAD, but the professors are normally very kind about the way they deliver critique an it made me learn to not only no longer dislike it, but to look forward to review days.
View moreI love the fragrance and beauty program here at SCAD. It gives so many learning opportunities and hands-on experience. It teaches you about fragrance and beauty and the marketing side of it as well. I can’t wait to see what my senior year looks like!
View moreMy admissions process was exceptional. The staff was very helpful throughout the process. I completed the process and was accepted within 3 weeks. Once I began the process I quickly had some concerns. The program I am enrolled in is completely online and this was the first year the school offered this program. The platform is user-friendly, although there were some issues along the way. For instance, recorded classes were not always uploaded timely. Overall the program is thorough although it is very reminiscent of my Bachelor’s coursework. For a Master’s program, I am hoping to learn more strategies and concepts. I have learned more in-depth concepts from my own studies and continued education.
