The campus, which is located NW Washington, DC, close to Maryland, offers a suburban vibe but all the benefits of a city. The campus is big enough to always have opportunities to meet new people but small enough that you won’t get lost. American University’s main campus is centered on a big quad, unlike GW. Living on campus is common for freshmen and sophomores, which is wonderful if you’re still getting used to making friends. You’ll have a sufficient number of friends and a sufficient grasp of the city by the time you’re a junior or senior, and you’ll be able to leave campus and enjoy your independence (and most likely closer to your favorite internship, job, or night spot). As a spring graduate, I will undoubtedly remember my time there with fondness.
