Wish I hadn’t gone, crap place in the world, bad people, bad racist university staff, bad course, bad organisation. The whole thing was a waste of time. I got my 2:1 in Accounting (ABFM) without going to a lecture, and then threw it straight in the bin.

I feel very honoured to study at the University of York, as it is a Russell Group institution and the management school is prestigious. I enjoy the different modules associated with my course because there is a variety in the different content that is covered throughout the year. However, I do feel that in some of the modules the way that the content is taught could be improved upon as the interest in the course for students like myself can feel like it can be reduced. Therefore, if the lecturers were more passionate and enthusiastic in the way they teach certain modules, this would improve the overall experience. My career prospects are bright as I feel that by being able to go to a prestigious institution after graduating and applying for jobs could give me an extra advantage when employers are considering my application for a particular job because I have studied at one of the top universities in the UK.

Since the start of my course, it’s been nothing but chaos and stress. Granted, we started during the pandemic which made things difficult for everyone however I know some friends that attend other universities that had a much more pleasant experience. I was hoping things would massively improve when I started my second year due to the lockdown lifting and in-person classes being re-introduced, however, that wasn’t the case. Lecturers didn’t respond to emails or if they did, questions and feelings were disregarded. Lessons were uploaded late which affected working schedules, mock exams were cancelled, we were given false promises, lecture slides were poorly displayed making them hard to follow, and when asking for more support we were told ‘it’s our own problem if we don’t understand by this point’… On a positive note, our careers advisor and placements officers went above and beyond for us in regard to mentally supporting and guiding us through. They took time out of their own lives to check up on many of us on the course, they sent over resources that may help with our worries and helped us raise our concerns to the right people so we were properly heard. It felt like since the pandemic, people (lectures) thought it was acceptable to use ‘lockdown circumstances’ as an excuse for executing themselves poorly and putting in minimum efforts.
