I have just completed my second year of study at the University of Leeds studying Human Geography. I have thoroughly enjoyed the range of compulsory modules available this year, which included ‘Career Skills’ (which included group presentations to a panel), ‘Research Approaches’, and ‘Social and Spatial Data Analysis’.
My favourite aspect of level 2 studies however was the opportunity to choose most of my modules which allowed me to focus on my subject passions or to try something new! I also had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Wales free of charge to carry out fieldwork which was a really social few days and it was great to do academic research outdoors! In third year there is also the opportunity to carry out fieldwork abroad such as in Sicily.
There are also discovery modules which are modules from different subjects that are available to try each academic year – you can study up to 20 credits! For example I have been studying Spanish this academic year which was an amazing opportunity to improve my language abilities!
Over the past two years I have found that my cohort has been very friendly and the group work is a great opportunity to meet people on the same course as you and also a chance to learn from peers.
The teaching on the most part I found engaging and of a high standard. Although there was less 1 to 1 tutorial appointments that I would have liked, the staff are always open to meetings, whether that is about academic enquiries or simply for a chat.
