I am currently a final year Media and Communications student at Birmingham City University and I believe sharing my personal experience can support prospective students in making their decisions, as they step into the higher education world, potentially at Birmingham City University.

One of the aspects that has stood out the most to me is the flexibility within the course. Through second and third year students are given the opportunity to choose optional modules, rather than mandatory ones. This flexibility has allowed me to select subjects that genuinely align with my intended career path, supporting my development in the profession. Being able to tailor my studies around my interests has made the learning more engaging and purposeful. Instead of feeling restricted, I have been able to explore areas that support my intended career path.

Student Support services have been extremely accessible and helpful. The careers team provides guidance on CV’s, applications and interviews. This support is continued for a set number of years after graduation. This displays their commitment to long term career development and actual care for graduates. Student Support and Disability Services are easy to reach and very responsive.

Following on with the student support services, each student is assigned a tailored personal tutor who checks in regularly. These meetings are not just academically focused; this time is also used to express any personal struggles and concerns that the student may be experiencing. This continuous support throughout your studies is extremely important and Birmingham City University staff demonstrate this well.

In terms of campus life, BCU actively promotes social life and finding a belonging in the university. This is done through the multiple societies they have, supporting students manage academic pressure and promoting wellbeing.

Whilst my experience at BCU has been largely positive, it is recognisable that the IT and technology resources can be improved. On many occasions, university systems are down, making it difficult for students to access online materials and meet timetable requirements. Limiting their study time.

Overall, my time Birmingham City University has been positive, with outstanding support and excellent opportunities for flexible learning. These past three years, I have found my belonging at the university and met many amazing people through the social life the university encourage. The resources and support available have greatly contributed to my personal and academic development and I feel confident stepping into the world of work.

I loved the campus location as it is in the city’s heart. The classes were distributed evenly but also fulfilled the work-life balance for students. It helped in many ways like completing your degree while working part-time to support yourself while having time to explore the UK.
The faculty is so supportive and amazing.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Gemmology at Birmingham City University, where my studies primarily focus on the identification, grading, and analysis of gemstones. BCU is the sole institution in the world offering a BSc program in Gemmology, and as such, it was the only viable option for me to pursue this field of study. I am thoroughly enjoying the program, and the faculty members are exceptionally knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. Additionally, the university provides access to state-of-the-art equipment, which has proven instrumental in my research and analysis of various gemstones. However, I would appreciate greater access to a wider range of stones for further study and analysis.
In conclusion, the Gemmology program at Birmingham City University offers an exceptional learning experience for those interested in the field of gemstones. While the program provides access to cutting-edge equipment and knowledgeable faculty, access to a more diverse range of stones would further enhance the education and research opportunities available to students.

As a media and communications student at Birmingham City University, I have been extremely satisfied with the course curriculum and the focus on hands-on learning. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and the small class sizes allow for plenty of one-on-one interaction. In addition, there are numerous opportunities for internships and placements, which have allowed me to gain practical experience in my field and apply the theories and concepts I have learned in the classroom. The wide range of resources available to help students succeed, including career advice and counseling services, has also been very helpful. Overall, my experience at Birmingham City University has been extremely positive.

If you want to learn art or design, I believe BCU courses is good for people who have 0 knowledge or art and design study. But if you already have a high level of the art and design knowledge, other university would be better choice from BCU. Because BCU is for entry level learners who want to learn foundation of the art course. Especially for international students, the teachers here are very nice and willing to help you complete your degree.

One notable thing for me is the willingness of every member of staff, academic or non-academic, to help you, which makes BCU a very conducive place for learning. I highly recommend BCU, especially if you are looking to study in Media.

I did master’s in visual communication from BCU and this was my best year in terms of growth and experience. As an international student, there are so many problems but BCU’s staff dealt with everything. In terms of environment, BCU is a multicultured university which brings students of all cultures together in one place. Meeting students from other cultures help me to adjust easily in United Kingdom.

Great uni – great teachers, brilliant fun and exciting atmosphere and lots of partying. Teachers were very helpful and always there when you needed them. Vibrant city and always places to go in the evenings

BCU is a respectable institution, yet it has issues. Many staff members, especially those in leadership roles, have been mute about the kids during the epidemic, which has left them feeling a little alone. However, several employees have gone above and above, and overall, the university is solid but occasionally a little disjointed.

The university has been great at welcoming students of great diversity and have amazing teaching schemes along with the staff being of more than help. The campus facilities are remarkable as well and ensure that the students make the best of their time.
