Muhimbili University is the first established medical university college in Tanzania, founded in 1963 to train medical doctors and fill the gap in medical personnel in post-colonial Tanzania. Located in Dar es Salaam, the university is currently one of the leading medical universities in healthcare, training, research, and consultancy services in East Africa.

Muhas is currently investing in infrastructure, including lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and digital learning platforms. However, the university still faces concerns with infrastructure, including student accommodation. This has been led mostly but the expanding need as institutions grow.
