I would rate my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Dar es Salaam quite positively overall. The program offered a strong academic foundation and equipped me with essential critical thinking and research skills. It provided a valuable perspective on the complexities of human societies and cultures, helping me understand the intricate relationship between people, their environments, and the systems they create.
Several aspects of the program stood out to me. Notably, Dr. Dauda’s course on ecology and culture was eye-opening—highlighting how cultural practices directly influence ecosystems and vice versa. Dr. Kamughisha made a significant impact through his teachings on both qualitative and quantitative research methods, fostering a balanced and analytical approach to anthropological inquiry. Dr. Jacqueline’s classes offered deep insights into society and culture, as well as pressing urban problems and contemporary anthropological issues.
While the program was intellectually enriching, I believe it would benefit from more modern resources and practical field-based learning opportunities. Nonetheless, the knowledge and perspective I gained have been transformative, both academically and personally. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in understanding the deeper layers of human behavior, society, and culture.
