Pros:
– Competitive nature
– Elite society (due to high cost)
– High adaptability even in the harsh conditions of the Sudanese geopolitical scene
– Accredited internationally
– Research-focused
– More equipped than most medical schools in Sudan
– Overall a great clinical-to-basic-sciences experience
– Started a lot of extracurricular activities after war
– Became very open in terms of culture especially in the Rwanda campus
Cons:
– Lack of official scholarship application pathways versus the very high cost (in terms of Sudanese population income)
– Administration is a bit stiff with decisions and might not take considerations
– No official institution emails (very hard to explain especially in publications)
Recommended in the case that you are a high-income individual in Sudan or Rwanda. Internationally, there might be better options. Great options for Africans!
View moreI studied at The University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) in Sudan, and it was a highly enriching experience both academically and personally. UMST is considered the best university in Sudan, offering a modern learning environment with up-to-date curricula in the medical field, along with well-equipped laboratories that provided me with strong practical experience.
One of the university’s main strengths is its European-inspired academic system for teaching and assessment, despite being located in Sudan. This makes it a preferred choice for many Sudanese students who have lived in European countries. The university is internationally recognized, particularly in Europe, and the academic year consistently begins in September.
Despite major challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, political unrest, and conflicts, the university continued its educational programs through online learning and even opened branches in Rwanda and Saudi Arabia to help students complete their studies without interruption.
I particularly appreciated how theoretical knowledge is linked with practical clinical training, which gave me a strong foundation and confidence in handling medical cases during practical training. The faculty is highly skilled and supportive, providing guidance academically and personally.
Personally, my time at UMST helped me develop research and critical thinking skills, as well as build a valuable professional network with colleagues and professors from diverse backgrounds.
The only drawback of the university is its relatively high cost compared to the general economic situation in Sudan, but this is the only limitation I experienced.
Despite some academic challenges and the pressures of commitments, my experience at UMST was a turning point in my life, and I am grateful for all that I learned there.
View moreMy experience at the University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) in Khartoum was generally positive. The faculty is knowledgeable and the programs are well-structured, providing a solid foundation in medical sciences. The university emphasizes practical learning, which I appreciated as it helped bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications.
What stood out to me were the hands-on experiences and the diverse range of courses offered. The professors were approachable and often went above and beyond to ensure students understood the material. I particularly enjoyed the opportunities for research and personal growth within the medical field.
View moreIn my experience the course was unfocused and i feel that i will graduate while missing crucial knowledge and skills. Both the materials provided for study and the subsequent exams lacked thoroughness and depth. There were extenuating circumstances in my case, but i dont believe they account for the basic lack of effort on the behalf of the institution.
View morethe community is great and met with wonderful tutors the campus itself has great activities even in these difficulties caused by the situation in the home country we are managing to continue our studies any issues faced were just mainly with the administration.
