What Is an Entrepreneurship Degree?

Our society is constantly changing, thus it is challenging us to step out of our comfort zone, take actions and make a change in our community. Nowadays, students have the chance to do that through an entrepreneurship degree.

Entrepreneurship degrees are designed to develop students’ leadership skills, as well as technical skills, in order to prepare them to start their own business. Candidates learn what it takes to start a new business, starting with networking until selling their idea.

Unlike a business degree, which focuses more on technical information, entrepreneurship is the ‘creative’ part. This degree emphasises the concepts and ideas behind a business while understanding its environment and major bottlenecks.

Benefits of an Entrepreneurship degree

Graduating from an Entrepreneurship course has plenty of positive aspects. Undoubtedly, the most important one is the students’ mindset. Entrepreneurs are proactive and willing to take initiative, which is valued in this rapidly growing market.

Graduates from entrepreneurship degrees are highly sought for their knowledge and transferable skills, which makes them one of the most significant players in the business field all around the world.

Generally, graduates either start their own company or they seek opportunities in other businesses in fields like production, retail, marketing, human resources, finances and so on.

Entrepreneurship Degree Structure

Entrepreneurship courses are a three-year commitment, in which you need to complete a certain amount of credits to be able to complete your studies. The number of credits required varies from university to university.

Moreover, there are some institutions in which entrepreneurship is required to be studied together with another minor course. The minor course, often called the ‘flexible’ course can be chosen from any other discipline area within the university.

    Undertaking at the UPV

Hello!! Almost a year and a half ago I was about to finish my degree, I only had to deliver the TFG and I realized that I had not taken advantage of everything that the UPV offered me. And it is that this university offers great help to all students who have an entrepreneurial spirit.

As entrepreneurship is something that has always called me, I decided to sign up for a Challange promoted by Ideas, the UPV entrepreneurship program. I participated with a classmate and we carried out a project that we elaborated on a subject. Obviously, we did not win, since it was not really a project that we had developed in-depth to really carry it out, but that does not take away the experience that we had.

The Challenge lasted about 3 days and you could go alone or with your team, to which new members could join. There, the teachers gave you the guidelines and tools necessary to develop your project in greater depth and finally be able to present it to the court. In addition, the top 3 teams were given a cash prize to help them carry out their project.

This program brought me a little closer to Ideas, so I decided to set up a meeting with them and show them a project they had in mind. The project was accepted and I, along with two colleagues, began to enter the incubator of the UPV. There we have the advice of the ideas team and the support of a fairly advanced start-up. Both guided us to tell us how to approach the project and make it viable. Unfortunately, the project did not progress much further, but not because the UPV did not give us the necessary tools, it was due to the personal issues of the members of the group.

With all this, I want to say that if you are going to study at the UPV and you have an entrepreneurial spirit, do not miss the opportunity to learn about the Ideas program, because it is a real pass. Even once you have graduated, you can count on their support.
