The University of Belgrade consists of many different departments and many different buildings spread around the city.
I attend the School of Electrical Engineering, the building of which is shared with the Schools of Architecture and Civil Engineering. The other Faculties are more distant, so we mostly communicate with students from our own department.
The study programme of our Faculty is rather challenging, as it is made for the best students of Serbia and neighbour countries. It is important to work hard in the first year of studies, in order to adapt to the challenging environment.
However, it is very convenient that lectures are not obligatory (except the laboratories), and all needed materials are usually provided to students. Of course, it is easier to follow a subject if one attends classes, but the professors are always willing to help and devote their time so that a student understands the matter. There are several opportunities to sit exams, which makes it easier to handle all the workload.
Lastly, there are several students associations present in the Faculty that enhance the creativity and initiative of the Electrical Engineering students’ life and offer them experiences in the fields of teaching, mentoring, organising, managing projects, teamwork, communication etc. And the fact that the lectures are not mandatory brings more freedom to the daily schedule of students.
