The University of Peshawar is one of the oldest and most respected universities in Pakistan. It has a beautiful campus with a mix of historic and modern buildings, surrounded by greenery and a peaceful environment. The atmosphere is great for studying, and many students from all over the country come here, which makes it diverse and lively.
In terms of academics, the university offers a wide range of programs in arts, sciences, social sciences, and professional studies. The faculty is generally well-qualified and experienced, although the teaching style can vary depending on the department. Some departments are known for their research and strong alumni network.
On the other hand, like many public universities, there are a few challenges. Administrative work can sometimes be slow, and facilities in certain areas could use more upgrades. Hostel life is affordable but not very modern, and students often have to manage with limited resources.
Overall, the University of Peshawar is a good option if you’re looking for quality education at a reasonable cost, especially if you value tradition, diversity, and a vibrant student community. It has its flaws, but the experience and exposure you get here are worth it.
Studying at the University of Peshawar had both positives and serious drawbacks. On the positive side, the professors were knowledgeable and supportive, and the university has a strong reputation in the region. However, the Computer Science department was far from what one expects in today’s tech-driven world. The department building was old and poorly maintained, and it really needs to be shifted to a modern facility. Almost all processes were manual, even though this was supposed to be a Computer Science programme.
The biggest issue was the lack of practical focus. Classes were mostly theory and exams, with little to no implementation of code or hands-on projects. Learning felt like memorization rather than gaining real technical skills.
In addition, our education was regularly disturbed because almost every month there were strikes by employees or teachers due to salary issues. These strikes wasted valuable study time and created uncertainty. The university environment was also heavily influenced by politics, with groups, protests, and student clashes being common. All of this distracted from academics and made campus life stressful at times.
Opinion about the University
The University of Peshawar has potential, but its outdated system, constant strikes, and political environment take away from the learning experience. I appreciated the professors who genuinely wanted students to learn, but I disliked the infrastructure, lack of practical exposure, and continuous disruptions.
Recommendation
I would not recommend this university to students who want modern, practical, and industry-focused Computer Science education. It can give you a strong theoretical foundation, but you will need to put in extra effort outside the university to gain real skills and industry experience.

View moreThe University of Peshawar, commonly referred to as UoP, holds a special place as one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in Pakistan. As a student, my experience there was a mix of academic rigor, cultural richness, and personal growth. Here’s a detailed account of my journey:
Campus and Facilities
The campus is sprawling and picturesque, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Peshawar. It provides a calm and inspiring environment for learning. The iconic buildings, such as the Central Library and the lush green lawns, add to the charm. While the campus is well-maintained, some facilities, such as IT labs and lecture halls, could use modernization. The library is a treasure trove for research students, but digital resources are somewhat limited.
Academic Experience
The University offers a diverse range of programs across disciplines. The faculty is a blend of experienced professors and passionate lecturers, many of whom are highly qualified with PhDs from international institutions. While the academic environment is competitive, I felt there could be more emphasis on practical knowledge and industry linkages. Research opportunities are abundant, but students need to be proactive to make the most of them.
Student Life
Student life at UoP is vibrant. There’s always something happening, be it debates, cultural events, or sports tournaments. The university fosters diversity, as students from various provinces and even neighboring countries come to study here. This diversity adds a unique flavor to the campus culture. However, I did feel that more extracurricular opportunities, like internships or skill-based workshops, could enhance the overall student experience.
Hostels and Accommodation
The hostel life is memorable but challenging. The rooms are affordable and sufficient for basic needs, but the infrastructure needs improvement. The canteen food is decent, though not exceptional. A sense of community and lifelong friendships make up for the shortcomings.
Challenges
While UoP has a stellar reputation, it does face challenges:
Administrative Efficiency: The bureaucracy can be slow, especially during exam registrations or result declarations.
Infrastructure: Some labs, lecture halls, and equipment need upgrades to align with modern standards.
Career Services: Career counseling and job placement services are limited, leaving students to rely on personal networks.
Overall Experience
Studying at the University of Peshawar is an enriching experience. It provides a solid foundation for both academic and personal growth. Despite its challenges, the university equips its students with the skills and resilience to succeed in life. For anyone seeking an affordable, diverse, and academically enriching institution, UoP is a great choice.
