The University of Ilorin is a Nigerian Federal university located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State in the Northwestern part of Nigeria. Over time, the institution has cemented its place among the best universities in the country as it ranks high among institutions renowned for research, scholarship and innovation. Over a period spanning about 20 years (2000 – 2020), UNILORIN (as it is popularly called among Nigerian students) had a reputation as one of the universities with the fastest, strike-free academic calendars in Nigeria, a recognition it has now lost since its lecturers decided to re-join the Academic Staff Union of Universities, thereby rendering it strike-prone again.
However, it is noteworthy that the university has excelled and continues to excel in other areas. Its faculties are top-notch, its academic curriculum is one of the best in Nigeria, and it boasts some of the best academic brains on the African continent.
Another thing that stands out about UNILORIN is the beauty and serenity of its campus, as well as the standard sporting facilities available to its staff and students.
All in all, I’d say the University is an amazing study destination and would encourage anyone who fancies an education in the Nigerian hinterland to apply there any day.
This prestigious University is one of the leading universities in Nigeria. It is sought after by many thousands of aspirants yearly for its advanced way of learning, well-trained lecturers, character building and the standard academic preparation provided for its student to survive in the larger world system. It is definitely not an exaggeration if I say my experience with every of my lecturer and course mate in the department of Mass Communication is worth more than a five star. I am well cooked for greatness more than just my certificate and made ready for the next step in life. One thing yet to be controlled that makes it quite an issue in this school is the inability of the government to meet the needs of this Federal University. This is definitely under progress. Asides this, I would say University of Ilorin is a school for all.
