Vilnius University has a fantastic student community, insightful and helpful lecturers, and a high quality of studies.
I look forward to every day of my studies here, and highly recommend the university!
I am generally satisfied with the quality of education at VU TSPMI. Some lecturers put in a lot of effort into teaching and genuinely care about students’ learning experiences, while others are less engaged. The workload is undeniably huge but still manageable with proper organization and dedication.
However, my final year was particularly stressful due to my experience with my bachelor’s thesis supervisor, who is also the rector of the faculty. Throughout the thesis process, she refused to communicate with me, ignored all of my emails, and provided no guidance. Then, on the day of my defense, she openly mocked me in front of all students defending their BA theses and the lecturers evaluating them. Another lecturer was laughing along with her. What made this experience even more frustrating was the clear contrast in how she helped my peers, which raises serious concerns about fairness and professionalism.
I regret not reporting this incident at the time, but I was afraid of the possible consequences. No student should have to fear retaliation for speaking up about inappropriate behavior from faculty members, especially those in leadership positions.
Given this experience, I strongly believe that someone with such behavior should not hold a leadership position at the university, let alone be responsible for teaching students. Her presence in lectures was already minimal, as she frequently delegated teaching to her MA students. This lack of commitment and professionalism is disappointing for an institution that aims to uphold high academic standards.
While VU TSPMI provides a solid education, the actions of certain faculty members—especially those in leadership positions—can greatly impact students’ experiences. I hope the university addresses these concerns to ensure a fair and supportive academic environment for all students.
