As a graduating Psych major at LAU, I have mixed feelings. I learned a lot, but the program wasn’t without its flaws.
The core curriculum provides a solid foundation. However, the quality of instruction can vary. Some professors are amazing, engaging, and passionate, while others rely heavily on PowerPoints and learning by memorization. Additionally, there’s a decent selection of core classes but the psychology electives felt a bit limited. I would have liked more options to explore specific areas of interest within psychology. Also, while I enjoyed having to take LAC and free elective courses, sometimes it felt like we had an excessive amount of electives we had to take.
The diverse student body is definitely a highlight. However, since class sizes can be large, it was difficult to get to know professors and classmates on a deeper level. Still, the student life at LAU was great and super active, each semester had numerous events for every student to enjoy.
Despite the drawbacks, I think LAU has prepared me sufficiently (especially for grad school), thanks to the research experience I gained and the strong foundation in core psychology principles.
Overall, LAU’s psychology program and LAU has its strengths and weaknesses. If you’re a self-motivated student who thrives in large lectures, you’ll do well.
