What Is an Art and Design Degree?
It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.
Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.
Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.

Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.
In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.

Art and Design Degree Structure
Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.
The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.

TheaLBMy AUB JourneyHaving been enrolled in the Media and Communication program at the American University of Beirut for the past three years, I can confidently say that this program has been an enriching and transformative experience. Throughout my time in the program, I have had the opportunity to develop a broad range of practical skills that have been essential for my personal and professional growth.
One of the most valuable aspects of this program is its hands-on approach. I’ve had the chance to engage in filming, video editing, and photography, which has allowed me to gain expertise in technical tools and creative expression. These skills have proven to be incredibly useful, whether for class assignments or personal projects.
The program has also equipped me with a solid foundation in strategic thinking and marketing communication. I have learned how to develop and execute communication strategies effectively and how to apply these principles to real-world scenarios.
Moreover, the focus on presentation skills and public speaking has significantly boosted my confidence. I have become more comfortable with speaking in front of an audience, whether it’s for class presentations, events, or other professional settings.
In conclusion, the Media and Communication program at AUB has been an invaluable part of my academic journey. It has not only taught me theoretical concepts but also provided me with the practical tools to excel in the media industry. I look forward to applying everything I have learned as I continue to grow in this field.

I don’t know about the regular AUB courses, but I’m a student at the CEC for many years, and I think this center needs a lot of work and attention, whether on the administrative level which is way below average or on the educational level where not all teachers are up to the level and professional standards as if this center is undervalued and is not really taken seriously and it’s disappointing by the fact that it’s not really offering an AUB kind of educational level.
