My experience at the university has been average overall. There were definitely some useful classes and interesting things to learn, but a lot of the time it felt like we were spending too much time on things that weren’t particularly relevant or useful. The quality of classes also varied a lot depending on the lecturer. It’s not a bad university, but I expected to get more practical knowledge from my studies.
View moreOverall, the university is okay, but my experience has been mixed. Some classes were quite boring and honestly didn’t teach me much. There was also a lot of unnecessary stuff that felt like a waste of time. However, there were some useful courses as well, where I actually learned something valuable and gained practical knowledge. Overall, it’s not bad, but I would prefer more useful and practical subjects and less unnecessary work.
View moreI had a very positive experience studying at Daugavpils University as an international student. The university provides a welcoming environment for students from different countries and cultures. The lecturers are knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive throughout the academic journey. The study programs are well-structured and encourage both critical thinking and independent research.
One of the biggest strengths of the university is its international support system. I would especially like to highlight the outstanding support of Velta, the International Coordinator. From the moment I arrived in Latvia, she was always ready to help with academic, administrative, and personal matters. Whether it was dealing with insurance issues, residence permit questions, university procedures, or other challenges, she consistently provided guidance and assistance. Her dedication to international students goes far beyond her professional responsibilities, and her support made my transition to studying in Latvia much smoother.
The university offers a peaceful study environment, affordable living costs compared to many other European cities, and opportunities to interact with students from various backgrounds. While Daugavpils is a smaller city, it is a safe and comfortable place for students who want to focus on their studies.
Overall, I highly recommend Daugavpils University to international students looking for a quality education in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. The combination of dedicated academic staff, a welcoming community, and exceptional international student support makes it a great place to study.
Daugavpils University offers a friendly and affordable environment with supportive teachers. I faced an insurance issue, and the international coordinator personally accompanied me to an office to resolve it, which I really appreciated. However, administrative processes can be slow and career support is limited. Overall, it’s a decent choice for students seeking a calm and budget friendly place to study.
View moreI have been to Daugavpils as an Erasmus student for a semester. I found a really quiet environment, with small classes, with welcoming classmates and helping and flexible professors. The administration offices smoothly managed documents and requests; also life in the общежитие was very fun and enjoyable.
I am a student of foreign languages, so I chose Daugavpils because of its Russian speaking minority, which makes it a pretty unique place in Europe. Still, I was negatively surprised when i found out the small amount of classes taught in Russian (evidently the main language of the inhabitants of the town). I also felt the lack of events and occasion for students to meet and mingle.
Despite all, I enjoyed my time at DU and I would really suggest the university to others and in case of international students, mostly because it is a good way to experience Eastern European culture and education.
Just to summarise: a small, quiet Easter European University!
